국문 초록

이 논문은 『한국문집총간』에 기록된 남성 문인들의 기록을 중심으로 18세기 양반여성들의 글쓰기가 어떤 양상으로 존재하였는지를 고찰한 것이다. 지금까지 조선시대 여성들의 글쓰기는 매우 희소한 것으로 인식되어 시대적인 특징에 대한 고려를 하지 못했다. 이는 여성들의 글쓰기를 현재 남아 있는 작품들을 중심으로 보았기 때문이다. 실제 조선시대 양반여성들의 경우 한시나 가사 등 문학작품만이 아니라 행장, 서간, 자전적 기록 등에 걸쳐 풍부한 글쓰기를 했던 것으로 보인다. 그러나 여성들의 경우 남성들과 달리 독서나 글쓰기가 당연하게 이루어지기보다는 집안의 경제적 사정이나 문화적 분위기에 따라 많이 좌우되었다. 따라서 이 논문에서는 한 양반여성의 일생을 중심으로 일상적으로 글쓰기가 어떻게 이루어졌는지를 살펴본 뒤, 18세기 양반여성들의 글쓰기를 현재 전하지는 않으나 흔적으로 남아 있는 행장, 행록의 초안, 자전적 기록, 한시, 가사, 공적인 글쓰기 등의 층위로 나누어 고찰하였다. 이를 통해 18세기 양반여성들이 행장이나 행록의 초안에서부터 문학작품, 학문적 글쓰기에 이르기까지 광범위하게 행해졌던 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This paper studies characteristic aspects of noble women's writing in the 18th century, focussing on men's documents which were listed in Collections of Korean Traditional Literary Volumes in Chinese Letters. Previously women's writings had been considered very rare because only remaining works of noble women had been mainly studied. As a result, the 18th century were not focussed as the period when women also participated in writing. Actually noble women in the Chosun dynasty were found to actively write from literary works such as poems in Chinese letters, and gasa(歌辭) to other kinds of writings such as letters, autobiographical documents and records of deceased people(行狀). Of course it's true that noble women's writing was not considered natural unlike noble men's writing. Actually women's writings depended a lot upon the economical and cultural background of their families. In this paper I examined how women wrote in their everyday lives focussing on the case of one noble woman's life, and then I studied lots of noble women's writings such as historical documents, autobiographical documents, poems in Chinese letters, gasa, and other formal writings, which had existed not as literary works but as some traces. From this study, I could see that noble women in the 18th century actively participated in writing whether they wrote in Hangeul or Chinese letters, and that the remaining works of noble women were only a small part of their writings.
