Problematizing that there has not been systmatic studies in the history of research on Chinese literature by Korean women writers so far, I will try in this p-aper to examine the history of research on that field. And I, accordingly, list all of those works cited in the footnote. Among those Korean women writers, Ho Nansolhon has been most extensively studied. And full-scale researches on her writings have launched in the 1980s when, as we see, a couple of doctoral dissertations on her works were completed: Ho Mija, Kim Myunghee and Lee Sookin were the doctoral candidates, and translations of Ho's Chinese poem; into modern Korean by Moon Kyunghyun and Kim Jiyong lent, we should admit, basic support to those dissertations. Shin Saimdang comes next on the list of research, which focuses mostly on her high moral standard as a woman. And the next is Kim Samidang whose works feature "beauty of nature" and "love between spouses." Park Yosoon, Kim Miran and Cho Sonyoung studied on both areas of her life and works. The next group of women writers are Lee Pinghodang, Kim Pyukimdang, Mrs. Chang, Lim Yunjidang, Kang Chongildang, O Sopa and so on. Among them, Mrs. Chang is so widely read these days that she was chosen as a "cultural-figure-of-the-month" in Korea because Lee Moonyol has featured Mrs. Chang, in his fiction" Choice, as the most sophisticated lady of her days. It was not only ladies with scholarly background who enjoyed writing Chinese literature. Even among geisha group, we had excellent poets such as Whang Jinee and Maechang, ro name a few. I will not include Whang Jinee in my paper because much has been studied on her "sijo" poems. And Ho Mija and Kim Jiyong examined the literary importance of Maechang, who was recognized by Ho Gyun as one of the major poets in her days. Wuncho and Park Chuksaw, penruured as Kumwon, are roostly studied geisha writers by feminist critics these days. In addition, there are many papers based on comparative research, i.e. Ho Nansolhon vs. Shin Saimdang or Ho Nansolhon vs. Whang Jinee. It was the "sijo" poets in the 1920s who, for the first time ever, introduced women writers of the Chosen dynasty. Lee Eunsang, pennamed as Nosan and Kimok, pennamed .as Ansaw introduced Olinese poems composed by Korean writers while they were translating them into "sijo," and most of the poets, notably enough, were women. And the 1960s saw the appearance of women scholars who started serious researches on women writers of the Olosen dynasty with the help of translations such as Selection of Chinese Poems by Korean Women by Kim Jiyong and Poems of Ho Nansolhon by Moon Kyunghyun. And the recent publication of Korean Women Wtiters by Taehak Press, which gives a general survey of literature by women so far, helped to found "The Association of Classical Literature by Korean Women." It is necessary to reexamine the traditional literature by women as well as to locate and evaluate properly new women writers because the 2lst century will be the period which, I hope, will be led by women. As a result, we can better understand the way how the Korean women felt and how we can live now and in the future.
