국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 한국과 일본 시설거주 노인들의 정신건강을 비교해보고, 시설거주에 대한 태도와 자녀관계가 정신건강에 미치는 영향을 파악하고자 하는 것이다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여 한국과 일본의 시설거주 노인 각 100명과 104명을 대상으로 시설거주태도, 자녀관계 만족도, 우울 및 스트레스 수준 등에 대한 조사를 실시하였다. 그 결과, 한국과 일본 시설거주 노인들은 우울 수준에서는 별 차이를 보이지 않았으나 스트레스 수준은 한국이 일본에 비해 더 낮아서 일본에 비해 한국 시설거주 노인의 정신건강이 긍정적인 것으로 나타났다. 정신건강에 대한 영향 요인에 있어서는, 한국의 경우에는 시설 만족도와 주관적 경제상태 인식이 영향을 미치는데 반해 일본의 경우에는 시설만족도와 자녀관계 만족도가 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 통하여 시설만족도는 한국과 일본에서 공통적으로, 자녀관계 만족도는 일본의 경우 시설노인의 정신건강에 영향을 미친다는 것이 확인되었으므로 다양한 유형의 노인시설이 단기간 내에 급증할 것으로 예상되는 우리의 현 시점에서 시설거주 노인의 시설만족도와 자녀관계를 향상시킬 수 있는 실질적인 방안이 조속히 마련되어야 하겠다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to assess and compare of mental health status between the Korean elderly and the Japanese elderly in institutions and to examine how the elderly's attitude toward institution living and parent-child relationship affect their mental health status along with other important factors such as age, sex, and economic status. The results of this study were; ⑴ Korean elderly showed better mental health status than Japanese elderly - there is no difference between Korean elderly and Japanese elderly on the level of depression but Korean elderly is less stressed than Japanese elderly; (2) for Korean elderly, their mental health status was influenced by the level of satisfaction about the institution and subjective recognition of one's economic status and for Japanese elderly, by the level of satisfaction about the institution and the level of satisfaction about parent-child relationship. In conclusion, this article argued that the practical methods to improve the environment and service of institutions and the parent-child relationship of the elderly in institutions were needed.
