일제 말기 징용체험의 소설화와 그 특성

국문 초록

이 논문은 1949년 출간된 朴完의 장편소설 『第三奴隸』를 분석한 글이다. 이 소설은 일제말기 徵用으로 일본 홋카이도로 끌려간 한 노동자의 體驗手記인데, 책 출간 이후 아직까지 학계에서 본격적으로 거론된 적이 없다. 그 이유는 이 책에 勞動者의 意識의 覺醒을 다루고 있으며 社會主義 이념을 드러나게 강조하고 있었던 데 있는 것으로 보인다. 하지만 이 소설은 植民地下에서 日本으로 끌려간 징용 노동자의 체험을 形象化한 작품이라는 점에서 例外的인 가치를 갖는다. 年代記的으로 쓰인 이 작품에는 植民地 朝鮮에서 징용에 의해 일본으로 건너간 노동자들이 어떤 대우를 받으며 노동에 臨했는가를 생생하게 證言하고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 이 소설은 作家가 자신의 체험수기를 소설로 형상화한 것인데, 이는 解放後 식민지 현실에서의 삶을 문학적으로 형상화하는 작업이 어떤 水準에서, 그리고 어떤 식으로 이루어졌는지를 代表的으로 보여준다. 自身의 體驗을 소설화하는 과정에서 이 작품은 일본의 프롤레타리아 작가 고바야시 다키지(小林多喜李)의 대표작 『蟹工船』(1929)을 모델로 하여 줄거리를 再構하고 있는 것은 물론, 노동자들의 集團的 각성과 鬪爭의 과정을 構造化하고 있다. 또한 이 책에는 1942년~1943년에 걸쳐 일본 각지의 勞動現場을 다니면서 朝鮮人들을 督勵하고 慰問한 親日作家 장혁주(張赫宙)의 면모가 그려져 있을 뿐만 아니라 나카니시 이노스케(中西伊之助)를 위시한 여러 일본 프롤레타리아 작가들이 거론되고 있어 이채롭다. 실제 경험에 根據하고 있다고 판단되는 이런 경험은 한 노동자가 해방후에 식민지 치하에서의 경험을 어떤 과정을 거쳐 문학적으로 형상화했는지를 보여준다는 意味에서 수기로서나 소설로서 일정한 의미를 갖고 있다.

영문 초록

This treatise is an analysis of the novel Third Slave(1949) by Park-Wan. There is no information about the author. According his postscipt and the facts stated in the (non)fiction, he was a woodworker and commandeered as a coal worker to the Japanese coal mine located in Kita-Kushu(北九州) and Asahikawa(旭川). This work is a novel based on the experience note of commandeering in the last period of Japanese Imperialism. As an experience note, this writing give a glimpse of the inferior lives of Korean workers and the violences of Japanese inspector and many Korean foremen, the conspiracy of the police and the munitions company, Sumitomo (住友), and so on. After Korea's liberation, the author transforms his experience note to a novel. So this novel is an exemplary work that shows a literary competence and form of experiences under the Japanese Imperialism many Koreans managed to create. In the process of transforming the note to novel, the author referred many literary documents, one of them is Kanikoshen(The Crab Factory ship), the fiction of Kobayashi Takichi(小林多喜二), a famous proletarian writer of Japan. In many respects as characterization and plot and the socialist theme, this work is modelled on Kanikoshen by Kobayashi Takichi. This novel also contains a features of a famous pro-Japanese writer Jang Hyuk-Joo(張赫宙), and this coincides with the fact that Jang Hyuk-Joo had many lecturing tour to comfort the Korean workers commandeered. And this meeting with him became a motive of novelization of the note. A self-consciousness of writer and the essence of literary writing grew out of his anger at the pro-Japanese writer Jang Hyuk-Joo The stories of experiences are produced in the period of after Korea's liberation, but inquiry of this writings in not enough because of ideological restrictions of Korea. The Third Slave is one of them and a good example of memory of poor lives of laborer who is commandeered in the late Japanese Imperialism, especially the sample contains the traces of transforming experiences to a literary writing.
