TIMSS(2007) 수학 검사의 차별문항기능에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 국제 학업성취도 검사인 TIMSS(2007) 수학검사 내 차별문항기능(differential item functioning; DIF)을 한국과 미국, 싱가폴 학생을 대상으로 검증하였다. 연구는 TIMSS에서 공개한 4개의 검사소책자(booklet)에 속한 공개 문항에 응답한 한국, 미국, 싱가폴 학생의 문항 반응 데이터를 이용하였다. 각 국가 간 차별적으로 기능하는 문항을 검증하고자비모수 추정방법인 SIBTEST(simultaneous item bias test)를 사용하여 문항을 검증하고, 내용영역, 인지영역, 문항 유형(객관식, 주관식)에 따라 차별적으로 기능하고 있는 문항의 특성들을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 한국과 미국은 총 41문항이, 한국과 싱가폴은 총 48문항에서 차별문항기능이 검증되었다. 내용분석에서는 한국-미국 간 비교에서는 데이터/확률영역이 한국학생에게 불리한 것으로 나타났고, 대수는 한국학생에게 유리한 것으로 검증되었다. 문항유형에서는 객관식 문항은 한국학생에게 유리했고 주관식은 미국학생에게 유리한 것으로 나타났다. 한국-싱가폴 비교에서는 뚜렷한 차이는 보이지 않았으나 인지영역에서 추론 부분이 싱가폴학생에게 유리하고 알기부분은 한국학생에게 유리한 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

As large-scaled academic achievement assessment drew attention, appropriateness of the inspection has been emphasized to verify a subject’s capability by test results from a point of view of measurement. This study tested the appropriateness of TIMSS (The Trend in International Mathematics and Science Study) administered at the international level by examining differential item functioning(DIF) among South Korea, U.S. and Singapore students. SIBTEST was used to detect DIF items and the results showed that the number of DIF items favor of Korean students or American studnets were similar whereas more DIF items were favor of Korean students than Singapore students. In the results of the content analyses fo the DIF items identified between Korea and US, algebra items were favor of Korean students where data/probability items were favor of American students. In the cognition area, items requiring knowing were favore of Korean students where reasoning items were favor of American and Singapore students. The results of this study showed that the Korean educational curriculum in mathematics focuses on acquiring mathematical knowledge through repeated problem solving rather than developing problem solving and reasoning skills. Korean students perform very high on TIMSS, however, this study provides additional information addressing what Korean students need to develop using higher cognitive complexity levels.
