국문 초록

본 논문의 목적은 1990년대 이후 대규모로 이동하는 조선족의 일본행과 더불어 형성된 에스닉 커뮤니티의 현황과 실천적 과제를 밝히는 데 있다. 현재 일본에 약 5만명 이상 거주하는 조선족은 중국 여권으로 일본으로 입국하여 중국식 이름으로 사회생활을 하는 상황에 보이지 않는 존재라 이야기된다. 본 논문에서는 “보이지 않는 소수자”인 조선족을 가시화 시키는 데이터를 구사하고 분석함으로서, 조선족의 에스닉 커뮤니티를 둘러싼 실태를 파악하고자 한다. 그를 위해 첫째로, 활용 가능한 공적인 통계자료 및 조선족에 관한 신문보도와 관련된 데이터 등을 고찰하고, 둘째로, 조선족의 일본행을 촉진시킨 제도적, 정책적 배경에 대해 년대별로 특징을 살펴보며, 셋째, 조선족이 일본행을 택하는 동기와 동향, 문화자본, 그리고 다언어화자로서의 상대적인 우위성과 딜레마 등에 대해서도 언급할 것이다. 아울러 일본에는 수많은 관련 단체나 소규모 네트워크로 구성된 집합체가 꾸려지고 있지만 일본에 정착함이 없이 다른 지역으로 이동을 반복하는 현대적인 현상에 대해서도 지적하면서 결론적으로 에스닉 커뮤니티가 이동의 플랫폼으로서의 기능과 역할을 누리고 있으며 초국가적인 민족사회를 구성하고 있음을 이야기 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper is aiming at trying to recognize reality of the situation of Korean-Chinese who have migrated to and from Japan on a major scale since 1990’s. With approximately more than 50,000 Korean-Chinese living in Japan, it has been indicated that their tendency to visit Japan based on Chinese passport or to assume Chinese name makes it difficult to recognize their existence as a Korean. In this paper, such materials that may shake up the stereotyped recognition on Korean-Chinese are suggested by showing data and findings which may visualize Korean-Chinese as, so to speak, “invisible minority”. First, a close look on the reality is taken while considering available public statistic documents, newspaper articles relating to Korean-Chinese and results of field surveys. Then, characteristics of institutional and political backgrounds are searched by age groups which have enhanced migration of Korean-Chinese to Japan. In addition, the discussion goes also for tendency in motivations for migration, cultural capital to direct Korean-Chinese to migrate, relative advantages as a multilingual speaker and the resulting dilemma they face. Based on the discussion above, the description gets on to activities of Korean-Chinese communities as well as remigration by Korean-Chinese living in Japan to other countries at the end of this paper. With a lot of Korean-Chinese related organizations and small-sized networked collective entities in Japan, not a few Korean-Chinese repeatedly migrate without settling down in Japan. In conclusion, it is described how Korean-Chinese have built up transnational ethnic societies while referring to the function of ethnic community as a contemporary migration platform.
