국문 초록

우크라이나 헤르손 태생의 치제프스키는 슬라브세계의 역사, 문화, 미학, 철학 등 다원적 연구 활동을 펼쳤던 학자이다. 특히 우크라이나 문학 분야에서 독창적 연구 성과를 내고 있는데 본 기고는 치제프스키 문학사 연구를 통하여 국내에서는 생소한 우크라이나문학의 전반적 흐름을 짚어 보려는 취지에서 출발하였다. 그는 이전 여타 서술의 유산과 한계를 몇 가지 측면에서 극복하려는 특징을 가진다. 우선 기술방식과 문학사적 관심 그리고 접근 방법에서 새로운 시도를 꾀하고 있다. 비록 철학적 형이상학의 범주로 비춰질 수도 있겠지만 문학적 현상들을 거시적 차원에서 역사적 흐름에 따라 유형화시키며 이를 다시 특정 전이 단계로서 세분하여 도식화하고 있다. 그는 슬라브문학의 경계선에서 우크라이나문학의 ‘절대 좌표’ 를 찾으려 부심(腐心)하였다. 심원한 원류를 추적한 루시문학이 그러했으며 코틀라레프스키, 셰프첸코 등 소위 '고전' 에 대하여는 독자적이며 이채로운 해석을 내렸다. 연구의 전제인 순수문학적 측면에서 내재적 문학 규범과 심미적 분석에 충실하면서도 사회적 성격과 문화적 함의를 총체적 관점에서 규명하려는 균형적인 시각이 돋보인다. 문학연구의 기초개념이자 시대를 효과적으로 연결하는 어떤 형식의 문학양식도 과거와 무관한 창조 그리고 완벽한 혁신이기보다는 문학과 예술에 대한 새로운 반응과 태도라는 주장을 폈다. 그는 전통에 대한 재인식 그리고 문학 전반에 대한 이해의 지평을 넓히는데 일조하고 있는 것이다.

영문 초록

Literary history is not a simple history of literature but a science describing literature and art in history. It has to deal with the situation of those days and events which had great effect on the literature of the time. The various Soviet histories of Ukrainian literature mirror the historical literary process with peculiar distortion. On the other hand Ukrainian Slavist, Chyzhevsky 's 'istorija ukrajins'koji literatury' (history of ukrainian literature) published by the Ukrainian Academy of Arts and Sciences serve as a reference guide for further study of literature and offer a critical interpretation of the development the Ukrainian literature from the XI c to the XX c. Above this, Chyzhevsky showed great erution through multigaced scholarly activity. Specially his endeavors in Ukrainian studies were prodigious. Although history is to descibe the facts of the period, but time division is also of great importance in depiction of literary history. In his book the History have divided time by this basis of distinct periods: Monumental Style, Ornamental Style, the XIII-XIV c, Renaissance and Reformation, Baroque, Classicism, Romanticism, Realism. Modernism. And interspersed with these are ancillary chapters: Pre-historic, Translated and Borrowed literature, Writing in Latin, National Revival, Ukrainian Sentimentalism, Biedermeier, Naturalism. The conceptual cornerstone of author's history is the designation of style as criterion of the basis and criterion of the literary process. The typologies of style that have resulted from this belief range from the objective, statistical to psychological. Style can still function as a rewarding analytical tool provided it is applied in a conscious and precious. It is introduced abruptly as the basis of periodization. Above all his scheme for periodicizing Ukrainian literary history embodies his central theoretical ideas on style as the substance of literary history. It descibed scientifically with artistic value, grasping minutely the relationship between the situation of those days and literature and the substantial data and obvios time division through it.
