다문화 시대의 한민족 정체성 교육 방법 모색

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 다문화 시대의 주류 패러다임인 다문화교육과 병존 가능한 한민족 정체성 교육 방법을 모색해 보는 데 있다. 현재 우리나라에서 다문화교육을 주장하는 연구의 대부분은 기존의 한민족 정체성 교육을 부정적인 것으로 인식하고, 이에 대한 대안 교육의 형태로 다문화교육을 강조하고 있다. 하지만 다문화시대에도 한민족 정체성 교육 자체가 포기되어서는 안 되며, 특히 다문화 시대라는 사회적 상황 속에서 다양성 존중과 민족정체성 형성을 동시에 고려하는 교육이 함께 진행되어야 한다. 이러한 교육이 이루어지기 위해서는 다문화교육의 다양성 추구와 한민족 정체성 교육의 단일성 추구 사이의 적절한 균형이 필요하다. 이에 향후 다문화 시대의 한민족 정체성 교육은 자기 민족에 대한 자긍심과 함께 타민족 존중 태도를 함양하는 것을 기본 목표로 삼아야 한다. 이를 위해서는 한민족 문화에 대한 올바른 이해, 삶의 터전에서의 공동체 문화를 강조하는 열린 민족교육으로의 개념 전환이 이루어져야 한다. 특히 열린 민족교육은 한민족문화에 대한 자긍심을 가지고 타문화를 존중할 줄 아는 개인 양성, 문화상대주의적 시각과 비교 문화적 시각을 동시에 가진 시민의 양성, 세계시민성교육(Global Citizenship Education)의 내용을 담고 있어야 한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to seek the possible coexistence of the multicultural education which is the mainstream paradigm of the multicultural society and the national identity education. The majority of the studies of multicultural education in Korea are currently claiming that the existing national identity education is recognized in the negative view, as an alternative the education of the multicultural education is emphasized. However, the national identity education should not be abandoned due to the influence of the multiculturalism. Hence considering the social situation of the multicultural society, the simultaneous progress of the formation of the national identity and respecting the diversity should be executed in the same direction. To execute the education, appropriate balance between pursuing the various multicultural educations and the pursuing the unity of the single national identity educations is needed. The korean national identity education for the future multicultural society's primary goal should be executing the national pride for her nation and respecting other nationals. To accomplish the understanding of the korean national cultural and concept change over to open national education is needed. The open national education must contain the training of the person with pride in korean culture, training of the citizens with cultural relativist perspective and cultural perspective as well as global citizenship education.
