국문 초록

본 연구는 국내 전자책 플랫폼의 부상 과정과 플랫폼 유형을 교보이북, 바로북, 북큐브, 리디북스에 대한 사례연구방법(case study method)을 적용하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 국내 전자책 플랫폼은 급격한 디지털 기술 변동과 주어진 적합도 지형(fitness landscape)에서의 적응 과정을 통해 부상(浮上)하였다. 국내 전자책 플랫폼의 부상 과정에서 결정적 역할을 한 요인은 고유한 선택 범주(distinct selection criteria), 자원 풍요도(degree of resource abundance), 개방적 혁신에 기반한 탐색 과정(search process)이다. 이 요인들을 기반으로 국내 플랫폼들은 종분화(種分化, speciation) 과정에서 니치(niche)를 창출하였으며, 초기 조건(initial condition)인 핵심 자원(key resource)에 따라 서점 기반의 교보이북과 커뮤니티 기반의 바로북 그리고 B2B 시장 중심의 북큐브와 모바일 기술 기반의 리디북스로 진화하였다.

영문 초록

The study analyzes the emerging process and ensuing typology of the e-book platform in Korean publishing industry through the case study methods. The e-book platform is emerging into a variety of the typology after adapting process in the rapid change of digital technological change and in the given fitness landscape. The critical elements in its emerging process are the distinct selection criteria, the degree of resource abundance and the search process based on open innovation. Based on these critical elements, the Korean platforms show speciation process, so called niche creation and their evolutionary process is depending on the initial condition of key resource which makes the platform emerge and grow. Specifically Korean ebook platforms are divided into two types generated by the key resource as the initial condition in the process of adaptation and co-evolution. Kyobo e-book and community-based Barobook show the first type, the so called existing resource based model like bookstore-based, whereas, the second type, the Niche Creation Model like B2B-based Bookcube and Mobile technology‐based Ridibooks show open resource model.
