박정희 시기 재현 영화가 드러내는 향수의 욕망

국문 초록

이 글은 몇 백 년에 걸쳐 그 모습을 달리해 온 탓에 다양한 의미를 추출할 수 있는 향수가 IMF 이후 제작ㆍ상영된 1960~70년대 과거재현 영화 속에서 어떻게 드러나고 있는지 살핀다. 이는 세계자본주의의 투명 감시 아래 더 이상 기능할 수 없는 체제를 버리고 한국 사회를 재구조화해야 하는 상황에서 한국 근대화의 시원으로 흔히 간주되는 1960~70년대를 영화적으로 재구성하여 향수한다는 점에서, 무엇보다 현실을 알려주는 지표의 역할을 충실히 하는 것으로 여겨진다. 각 영화들 속에서 성찰할 수 없고, 성찰하는 행위가 나쁜 것이라 여기는 인물들은 “먹고 사는” 것 즉 생존의 문제 그 자체에 관심을 집중한다. 그런데 이러한 주인공들은 스노비즘이 유일한 대안이 되는 당대의 맥락을 흡수한 것이라고 할 수 있다. 이제 이기적인 선택을 가능하게 하는 성찰을 할 수 없는 그들은 순수한 주체 더 나아가 죄 없는 피해자가 되기 위해, 개인의 삶을 파멸하는 나쁜 국가를 알리바이 삼는다. 자기 순결성과 희생자적 위치를 다시 얻은 남성 주체는 새로운 역사에 스스로 기입될 수 있는 자격을 성취한다. 그리고 나서 그들은 자신의 책임을 하지 못했던 아버지를 좋은 아버지로 변모시킴으로써, 아버지가 요구하는 훈련을 감내하여 보다 나은 삶의 목표에 다다르고자 한다. 이 글에서 논의한 대부분의 영화가 재구성하는 과거를 향한 향수적 시선은 ‘발전’에 대한 깊은 신뢰를 보여줌으로써 가능했으며, 이는 또한 박정희 체제의 근대화 프로젝트가 활발하게 가동시켰던 ‘발전주의’를 지속하고자 하는 바람을 드러낸다. IMF 금융 관리를 받게 되면서 가졌던 당시의 공포와 불안감은 주변에서 반(半)주변으로의 이례적인 상향이동을 연출했던 과거의 경험을 증거 삼아 발전주의에 대한 믿음을 강렬하게 작동시키고, 민주화가 어느 정도 성취되었다는 가정은 이를 보다 추동시킨 것이다.

영문 초록

The study is an attempt to analyse the relationship between nostalgia films and the moment of production of them. This attempt is made by focusing on the films that has been produced since 1998(when Korea accepts IMF Loan) to recall 1960~70’s. First of all, it is considered that the nostalgia for 1960~70’s is an indicator of Koreans recognition of reality and their desire, because many Koreans missed 1960~70’s as a scenario for emergency escape at a moment when Korea had to accept IMF patterns. There is a high possibility that the image of 1960~70’s can be reconstructed by effects of anxiety with globalization and a desire for economic revival at that time. The characters of these films who don't have any ability of introspection or believe that introspection is a bad behavior are interested in issues of the survival. This tendency shows the fact that Korea society has been changed completely to nature alike jungle of winner-all-take system, free-for-all, survival of the fittest, so-called the IMF period. And they become the innocent subjects who cannot hurt anybody for their interests at last. Therefore, a conflict that drives them to the corner has to be brought from the outside, especially the nation. As the result, the nation becomes the evil. In these films, generally sons seldom blame to their fathers and would find even disqualified fathers. Besides they want to take a role that makes change irresponsible fathers to responsible fathers. If it is hard to find betters fathers, sons want to be good fathers theirselves. So then, what do sons who become innocent victims with qualified fathers want to make? Each has each role. Fathers set a goal and train their sons. Sons train themselves with their bodies to attain their goal that fathers set. Here relations between father and son in transformed relations between master and pupil. In this vein, this isn't different with the modernization project of ex-president Park, GeoungHeui. Jedging from this, meaning of nostalgia for the specific past can be completely understood. This show that masculine national discourse which is based on victimhood has been followed the same. This narrative of reconstructed past shows a desire to maintain the Developmentalist that was operated actively by the modernization of the Park, GeoungHeui regime. That is why the reason that the most of these films is an agent of grand-narrative history to construct Nes Korea.
