태블릿 PC를 이용한 AAC 중재가 무발화 중도 자폐범주성장애 학생의 의사소통 양상에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

배경 및 목적: 자폐범주성장애학생들이 가정이나 사회에 통합될 수 있도록 대화상대자와 상호작용을 촉진하기 위한 AAC 연구의 중요성이 강조되고 있다. 특히, AAC 사용자들의 가정이나 지역사회 내에서의 AAC 중재와 AAC 전용 기기가 아닌, 보편적 설계기반의 기기들을 이용한 AAC 중재 연구의 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 Tablet PC를 이용한 AAC 중재가 무발화 중도 자폐범주성장애학생의 의사소통 시도(initiation)와 의사소통 단절(breakdown)시 복구(repair) 빈도, 그리고 의사소통 시도 양식 체계에 미치는 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 방법: 학령기 무발화 중도 자폐범주성장애학생 3명을 대상으로 중다간헐기초선 설계로 실시하였다. 참여 학생의 가정에서 주방놀이와 아이스크림 만들기 활동을 하면서 Tablet PC를 이용하여 AAC 중재를 실시하였고 Tablet PC에 ‘마이토키(가칭)’를 탑재하여 사용하였다. AAC 중재는 총 20회기 동안 실시되었고 참여 학생의 의사소통 양상 및 시도 양식 체계 변화가 가족 구성원들과 상호작용 및 의사소통에서도 나타나는지 알아보기 위해 대상 일반화를 실시하였다. 대상 일반화는 총 3회기 동안 이루어졌고 일반화 기초선과 동일한 조건에서 이루어졌다. 결과: Tablet PC를 이용한 AAC중재는 무발화 중도 자폐범주성장애학생 중 두 학생의 의사소통 시도하기 빈도를 뚜렷한 추세로 증가시켰으나 한 학생의 의사소통 시도하기 빈도는 약간 완만한 추세로 증가시켰고, 두 학생의 의사소통 복구 빈도를 증가시켰다. 또한, 중재 후 의사소통 시도 양식 체계에서 학생 1은 주로 AAC 사용이 증가하였고, 제스처는 유지 되었으며, 학생 2는 주로 발성 빈도가 증가하였고 AAC, 제스처, 발성 등 다양한 양식 체계 사용이 증가하였다. 학생 3은 중재 회기 후반에 AAC 체계 사용이 시작되는 추세를 보였다. 논의 및 결론: Tablet PC를 이용한 AAC중재는 세 명의 무발화 중도 자폐범주성학생의 의사소통 시도를 증가시켰고, 두 학생의 의사소통 복구 빈도를 증가 시키는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 의사소통 시도 양식 체계에서 AAC 사용과 발성도 증가시킨다는 것을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

Background & Objectives: Students with autism spectrum disorders can display many problems in communication due to limited speaking abilities. In addition, students with autism spectrum disorders have more breakdowns in communication and fewer strategies for breakdown repair. Therefore, to facilitate much more effective communication for autistic students, a technique called ‘Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)’ needs to be performed and taught to the students. Methods: The present study used a single-subject, multiple baseline, across participants design to evaluate the effects of AAC intervention using a tablet PC on aspects of communication in non-verbal students with severe autism spectrum disorders. For the present study, baseline, intervention, and generalization phases were included. The study was performed at each participant’s home using AAC intervention with a tablet PC. To facilitate AAC intervention, a program called ‘My Talkie’ developed in Korea was installed on the tablet PC. The activities the participants performed were kitchen role-playing and making an ice cream cone using Play-Doh. AAC intervention was implemented 20 times; ten minutes of play before each intervention was observed for comparison purposes. Results: AAC intervention using a tablet PC, which is widely used in home settings, increased the frequency of communication initiations and repairs by students with non-verbal severe autism spectrum disorders. In addition, AAC intervention also influenced communication modes among students with severe autism. Discussion & Conclusion: The results from the present study showing the use of AAC intervention with a tablet PC at home improved communication skills among students with severe autism could be of great significance.
