A Study of the Use of Tablet Computers as Innovative Tools for Human Resource Development

최근 갤럭시탭, 아이패드와 같은 태블릿 컴퓨터 활용은 인류의 문화적 변화와 더불어 기업의 근로 환경변화를 촉진시키고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 태블릿 컴퓨터의 긍정적 효과를 극대화하기 위한 기업차원의 활용방안을 검토하고, 이에 적용될 모형을 제시하고자 수행되었다. 연구질문은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노동생산성을 향상시키기 위한 도구로서 태블릿 컴퓨터의 적용가능성과 문제점은 무엇인가? 둘째, 인적자원개발도구로서 태블릿 컴퓨터가 기업현장에 적용될 수 있는 실용적인 방안은 무엇인가? 이러한 연구질문에 적합한 결론을 도출하기 위해 연구자는 산업체와 학계 종사자로부터 태블릿 컴퓨터의 활용양태에 관한 면접자료를 비교 분석하였다. 연구자는 한국의 S회계법인 회계사, 대학원생, 미국 연구중심대학의 교수와 대학원생의 심층면접으로부터 도출된 자료를 바탕으로 분석한 결과, 다음과 같은 논의를 도출하였다. 첫째, 태블릿 컴퓨터는 기존 노트북의 연장 혹은 대체제로서의 역할이 아닌 인적자원개발의 새로운 도구로서 활용되어야 한다. 둘째, 협동프로젝트와 비공식학습의 촉진을 위한 클라우딩 서비스 기반의 도구 활용이 필요하다. 셋째, 기업의 축적된 데이터베이스를 바탕으로 한 기업중심 어플리케이션 개발이 필요하다. 이러한 논의를 바탕으로 본 연구는 노동생산성향상과 인적자원개발의 도구로서 태블릿 컴퓨터의 활용방향을 모형으로 제시한다.

영문 초록

Tablet computers such as the Galaxy Tab and iPad are drastically changing the cultural environment and the workfield, and companies need to entice employees to use tablets to enhance labor productivity. This study explores how tablet computers can be utilized to develop human resources. Specifically, this study investigated the following research questions: first, what are the challenges and opportunities of using tablet computers to enhance labor productivity and, second, what are the practical implications? To find the answers to these research questions, this study compared the use of the tablet computer by a university faculty member and graduate students from the United States and South Korea with an accountant at S accounting firm in Korea. Based on the findings, the study advocates the following. First, it is important to relocate tablet computers as additional tools for labor productivity and human resource development, rather than placing them as replacements for the laptops employees have been using. Second, it is essential to utilize tablet computers based on the clouding service for informal learning and collaborative projects. Third, there is a need to develop firm-specific applications adaptable to tablet computers. As the local context of Korea is different from that of English language countries, companies need to provide firm-specific professional contents to use the tablet as an innovative tool. Based on the discussion, the study suggests a model for the direction of implementation for utilizing tablet computers.
