생명나무의 신학적 의미와 적용

국문 초록

본 소고의 목적은 창세기와 잠언에 나타난 생명나무의 신학적 의미를 고찰하고 신약과의 상관성 가운데 적용점을 살피는데 있다. 창세기 2장 9절의 생명나무는 하나님께서 생명의 근원이며 수여자임을 상징적으로 내포한다. 창세기 3장 22-24절은 영원한 생명을 가져다주는 생명나무에 대해 제시한다. 창세기의 생명나무는 하나님께서 부여하시는 구원과 영원한 생명이란 신학적 의미를 나타낸다. 잠언은 창세기에서 소개되었던 생명나무의 이미지를 다시 사용한다(3:18, 11:30, 13:12, 15:4). 잠언의 생명나무는 지혜와 의로운 삶과 관련하여 이해할 수 있다. 지혜를 얻는 자, 의인의 선한 삶의 영향력, 의인의 소원이 이루어지는 것, 온순한(치유하는) 혀가 생명나무로 비유되고 있다. 즉 언약 백성의 실천적 삶의 원리와 생명나무를 연관하여 소개하고 있다. 창세기와 잠언에 나타난 생명나무의 신학적 의미는 모형론적인 틀 안에서 신약과의 상관성을 가지고 있다. 언어의 상징적인 측면과 모형론적인 입장에서 볼 때, 신약에서 생명나무는 예수 그리스도와 그가 주는 영생을 가리킨다. 또한 요한 계시록에서는 하나님께 신실한 자와 이기는 자들에게 생명나무의 열매를 약속하고 있고 (계2:7) 그 약속은 새에덴에서 성취된다(계2:2,14,19). 신약에서 생명나무는 상징과 이미지로서 그리스도의 생명과 말씀에 순종하는 삶이 가져다주는 치유과 영생을 상기시킨다. 하나님의 백성들은 삶 속에서 영생을 주시는 예수 그리스도와 그의 말씀에 순종하는 삶을 살아가야 한다.

영문 초록

This paper explores the theological meaning of the tree of life in Genesis and Proverb, and examines its implication in relation to the New Testament. The tree of life in Genesis 2:9 symbolically implies that God is the source of life and its giver. Genesis 3:22-24 presents the tree of life that gives eternal life. The tree of life in both texts means that God is the giver of salvation and eternal life. Proverb 3:18, 11:30, 13:12, 15:4 reuse the image of the tree of life already introduced in Genesis. The tree of life in Proverb is to be understood in relation to wisdom and righteous life style. The tree of life is compared to the men who finds wisdom, the fruit of righteous, the desire fulfilled, and the healing tongue. The tree of life in Genesis and Proverb is connected with the New Testament in terms of the typological framework. From a symbolic and typological perspective, the tree of life implies Jesus and his eternal life. Jesus also promises the fruit of the tree of life to those who are faithful and overcomers(Rev 2:7). The promise is fulfilled in New Eden (Rev 2: 2, 14, 19). The tree of life in the New Testament theologically implies the life of Jesus and the healing and eternal life as God’s reward for the obedience of his people. God’s covenant people should obey Jesus who gives eternal life and his commandments.
