진안 진그늘유적의 슴베찌르개 연구

국문 초록

최근까지 보고된 슴베찌르개의 1/3이 넘는 99점이 진안 진그늘유적에서 발굴되었다. 이것들의 제작기법, 형식, 무게와 크기 등에 대한 분석은 슴베찌르개의 양상과 특성을 이해하고, 다른 유적과의 비교뿐 아니라 나아가 편년, 교류, 문화권 등의 규명에도 이바지할 수 있을 것이다. 분석 결과 슴베찌르개의 몸체 종류는 주로 중ㆍ소형(길이 약 8㎝ 이하)의 유문암제 돌날이었다. 몸체를 잔손질한 방법은 직접 다듬기에 의한 비늘모양 잔손질이며 그 방향은 대부분 등잔손질이고, 완성된 슴베의 각도는 56~80도에 속하는 것이 65.8%이다. 그리고 슴베의 평면 모습은(가) 오목형, (나) 오목+빗금형, (다) 빗금형의 세 가지로 나뉘며, 그 비율은 각각 49.3%, 34.3%, 16.4%이다. 찌르개 부위는 잔손질의 유무와 분포에 따라 ① 자연날, ② 한 변 일부 잔손질, ③ 한 변 전부 잔손질, ④ 양변 일부 잔손질, ⑤ 양 변 거의 전부 잔손질 등 다섯 가지로 구분되는데, 이 중 ①과 ②의 비율이 각각 42.6%, 45.7%에 이른다. 그리고 찌르개 끝의 평면각도는 44~79도가 71.7%로 나타났다. 슴베의 평면 모습 그리고 찌르개 부위의 잔손질 유무와 분포를 기준 삼아 형식을 분류해본 결과 모두 11가지로 세분되며, 그 중 “나①”과 “가①” 형식의 비중이 큰 편이다. 도구의 쓰임새를 추정하는데 있어 무게와 크기는 형태나 재질 못지 않게 중요한 요소이다. 이 유적 슴베찌르개의 무게(평균값)는 2.0~21.4g(6.8g)이고, 길이, 너비, 두께는 각각 31~80㎜(57.6㎜), 12~33㎜(20.3㎜), 4~12㎜(7.0㎜)로 다양하지만, 전체의 1/3 이상이 평균값 근처에 모여 있어 그만한 크기가 선호되었다고 해석된다. 끝으로 진그늘유적의 분석 내용을 수양개유적, 용산동유적과 비교해본 결과 서로의 양상은 유사하였다. 그러므로 슴베찌르개에 대해서 세 유적의 주인공들은 상당히 공통된 개념과 기술을 지니고 있었던 것으로 헤아려진다.

영문 초록

Ninety nine tanged points were found at the Jingeuneul site, Jinan County, Northern Jeolla province in Korea. Surprisingly, the amount of excavated tanged points are nearly two fifth of the total that are reported from Korean Upper Palaeolithic sites. They are classified into three kinds which are finished, unfinished, and broken. And the ratio is relatively 43.4%, 5.1%, and 51.5%. As seen in this composition, the Jingeuneul site was mainly used for making tanged point based on the blade manufacture. The blank of tanged points was small and medium sized blade that was mostly made up of rhyolite. Tanged point was completed by scaled retouch. 83% of the retouched angle of tang is 51~85 degrees. The plane shape of tang is divided into three types such as concave, oblique, and concave+oblique which accounts for 49.3%, 16.4% and 34.3% respectively. Depending on the retouched extent, the point can be divided into five types as follows; natural, partial retouch of one side, total retouch of one side, partial retouch of both sides, and the total retouch of both sides. And it turned out that each kind account for 42.9%, 28.6%, 17.1%, 5.7% and 5.7% respectively. And the major angle of point is 44~79 degrees which accounts for 71.7%. According to the classification based on the plane shape of tang, and the retouched extent of point, tanged points are categorized into 11 types. Thus, this typology including the two factors not only enables us to classify various tanged points distinctly but to understand entire composition comprehensively. The weight of tanged points is 2.0~21.4g, and the average is 6.8g. The length, width, thickness of them are respectively 31~80㎜, 12~33㎜, and 4~12㎜. The ratio of total length, width, thickness is 8.23:2.90:1, and the ratio of tang’s length, width, and thickness is 2.71:1.62:1. This result would be useful for understanding the general size and partial ratio of tanged point as well as postulating the original size of broken or damaged pieces.
