국문 초록

본 연구에서는 하도급거래에서 구매업체의 기회주의적 행위가 공급업체의 연구개발투자에 미치는 영향을 거래비용론적 접근에 입각해 분석한다. 이에 따라 중소기업중앙회 중소기업청의 ‘중소기업기술통계’ DB를 이용하여 구매업체의 기회주의에 노출되는 하도급기업과 그렇지 않는 시장판매기업의 연구개발투자량과 투자이익 탄력성을 비교 분석하였다. 분석결과, 하도급기업이 시장판매기업보다 연구개발투자량이 적고 투자이익 탄력성이 낮았다. 그리고 하도급기업의 연구개발투자가 부진한것은 투자여력부족보다는 계약에 대한 낮은 신뢰도로 인한 투자유인 부족에서 주로 비롯된 것으로 나타났다. 이로부터 하도급 중소기업의 기술개발투자를 촉진하기 위해서는 부당한 단가인하, 기술탈취나 기술유출등 구매업체의 기회주의적 행위에 대한 법적 규제를 강화함으로써 계약의 신뢰도를 높이는 방안이 강구되어야 한다는 함의를 얻고 있다.

영문 초록

Within the framework of transactional cost theory, Klein et al. (1978) and Monteverde & Teece(1982) explained that once the investment in the specific asset is made, the asset may be so specialized to a particular user that monopsony market power is created. As assets become more specific and more appropriable rents are created. Therefore the possible gains from opportunistic behavior increase and the costs of contracting will generally increase. Aoki&Okuno-Fujiwara(1996) shows that buyer's post-contractual opportunistic behavior reduces the supplier's R&D expenditure in their game theoretical model. Based on the and game theoretical transactional cost approach, this paper investigated the effect of buyer's post-contractual opportunistic behavior on the supplier's R&D expenditure, using a unique data set of 5,139 Korean medium and small businesses. Empirical evidence shows the profit and R&D expenditure of subcontractors are less than those of market suppliers. It supports the hypothesis that the possibility of buyer's post-contractual opportunistic behavior decrease subcontractors' expected profit and suppliers response to reduce their R&D expenditure ex-ante.
