국내 작문능력 연구의 동향분석

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 국내 작문능력 관련 연구의 동향을 분석함으로써, 국내 작문 연구의 현주소를 파악하고 향후 작문교육 연구의 방향을 제시하는 것이었다. 분석대상은 1990년부터 2011년 2월까지 국내 학회지에 발표된 작문능력 관련 실험연구로 일반학생과 쓰기학습부진 학생을 대상으로 한 연구였다. 총 30편의 작문연구를 연구대상, 연구방법, 중재방법, 작문평가 방법으로 분류하여 분석을 실시한 연구 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 연구대상은 초등학생이 주를 이루었고, 쓰기학습부진 학생 선별을 위해서는 다양한 준거가 사용되고 있었다. 연구대상의 규모는 일반 학생을 대상으로 한 경우는 한 편을 제외하고는 모두 31명 이상이었으나, 쓰기학습부진 학생을 대상으로 한 연구는 12편 중 다섯 편이 10명 이하였다. 연구 방법적으로는 중재연구가 발달연구나 상관연구보다 많았으며, 쓰기학습부진 학생을 대상으로 한 연구는 대부분 중재연구인 것으로 밝혀졌다. 중재연구에서 탐구한 중재법은 대부분 쓰기전략교수법이었고 중재 효과 크기를 제시한 논문은 한 편 뿐인 것으로 나타났다. 작문평가 방법은 연구자가 직접 고안하거나 이전 연구자의 준거를 수정하여 만든 정성평가를 사용하고 있었으며 사용하는 평가도구의 타당도와 신뢰도를 밝히지 않은 것은 문제점으로 지적되었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to analyze the trend of research about writing skills of students with and without writing difficulties in Korea. Through a rigorous selection process of major journals that were published from 1990 to 2011 in Korea, 30 experimental studies had been selected for a review. These studies were analyzed in terms of participants, research methods, intervention methods, and writing assessments. The results of the study are as follows. First, participants of most writing research were elementary students and various criteria were used to identify students with writing difficulties. In most studies that included students with writing difficulties, the subject size was less than 10. Second, the most frequently used type of research for the writing research was the intervention study. Particularily, all but one study that included students with writing difficulties were intervention studies. When the authors analyzed intervention studies to find out the most investigated writing intervention method, teaching writing strategies was turned out to be the far most studied intervention method; 11 out of 19 intervention studies were about writing strategies. However, only one intervention study presented an effect size for the intervention method and it was recommended that future researchers follow suggestions of APA’s research guidelines and design intervention studies more rigorously. Lastly, writing assessment methods were analyzed. It was found that some type(s) of direct writing assessments were included in most studies and these assessments were developed by the researchers themselves. However, the authors of this study suggested that future researchers need to explain the criteria of the assessments more articulately, and address the validity and reliability of the developed assessments with concrete numbers.
