영문 초록

This article is to study the details of the withdrawal of the Manchu army which invaded Korea in 1627. The withdrawal may be studied by dividing it generally into three periods. Namely, the first period leading to the conclusion of peace, the second period of about one month from the conclusion of peace to the withdrawal of main body of Manchu army, and the third period of complete withdrawal of the remaining forces. The Manchu army proposed a peace conference immediately following their invasion of Korea in the middle of January, 1627. But it took about 50 days to conclude the peace. On the other hand, the Korean side, ten days after the invasion, requested withdrawal of Manchu troops. But no particular progress was made for peace. In early March, after the conclusion of peace, the Manchu forces began to withdraw and by early April its main body withdrew beyond the Yalu River. However, it took a considerable time to have the remaining forces withdrawn completely. Manchu’s excuse for keeping a part of its forces in Korea was to control Ming General Mao Wèn·lung (Mo Mun-yong in Korean) Who stayed in the barracks on a northwestern island of Korea. The Manchus were not able to drive out General Mao’s influence there completely. But, because of Korea’s repeated request the Manchus, 6 months after the conclusion of peace, withdrew their forces completely in early September.
