영문 초록

On the premise that Korean history should be studied from the Korean standpoint, this thesis attempts to analyze the relations betw―een ancient Korea and the continent with main focus on Koguryo The Relations between ancient Korea and the continent followed a formalized pattern, that is, triangular relations among ancient Korea, the northern race and China. Ancient Korea developed on the basis of the balance of power between the northern race and China. When the northern race and China were on good terms, ancient Korea was open to their pressure. This triangular pattern was true in the period of the Three Kingdoms with Koguryo sharing borders with the northern race and China. The prime of Koguryo coincided with the split between the Northern and Southern Dynasties in China. During the Tang Dynasty when the Northern and Southern Dynasties were united, Koguryo was ruined because of the aggressive Chinese policy toward the Far East. With the decline of Koguryo which served a citadel against―expansion of the pressure from China and the northern race, SilJa in the southern part of Korea came to be directly influenced by China.
