This paper tried to make a comparative study between the independence movement of Korea and that of India with special reference to their patriotic activities of Dosan Ahn Changho and Mahatma Gandhi. Ahn Changho's political thought was to achieve progressive reforms rather than revolutionary changes. Dosan's nationalism was based on the respect of man's and mass's life and dignity. In his nationalism, mutual dependence and mutual assistance should be needed to improve the individual life and to further the national progress. His Heungsadan Movement was focused on the nationalism based on the rehabilitation and prosperity of the native country as well as love for humanity and world peace. The movement included the efforts to introduce an advanced knowledge and technology into the colonialized motherland and to enrich economic and moral power of the nationality. The reorganization of the national characteristics had been stressed in the drive to build up the national strength. Mahatma Gandhi's whole life has been ‘a process of an experiment with Truth(Satya)‘ in another word, an attempt to live in accordance with Truth. The concept of Truth is fundamental to his political thought and behavioral principle. For Gandhi the means for the attainment of swaraj, or self-rule, were Truth and Ahimsa, non-violence. The concept of his Satyagraha gave practical expression to the religious and moral ideals of Truth and Ahimsa. Satyagraha has been referred as the weapon of the strong man and not of the weak. Gandhi extended these principles of Truth and Ahimsa to his dealings with the British imperialistic government which had imposed its rule on India. His non-cooperation and civil disobedience are to be said as different branches of same Satyagraha. I endeavored to show the similarities of the concepts expressed by two leaders in Korea and India. Dosan and Gandhi stressed the ethical criteria that determines the way man thinks and acts. Their nationalism was grounded in mutual assistance and interdependence among their fellow countrymen. They applied their ethical ideals to their freedom movements trying to save people from the imperialistic bondage.
