영문 초록

This paper is written for the purpose of giving a lecture on the ethnic identity of Korea to the northern academic society. Ethnic identity means prototype of nation and substance of national culture. So in this paper I intend to study the Korean identity through the introduction of studies of south and north scholars on Old Chosŏn(古朝鮮) and formation of the Koreans. Academic issues in the studies on the history of Old Chosŏn have various fields: apperarance period of state, location of the capital region, extent of territory, etc. On the period of the foundation of Old Chosŏn by Tan'gun(檀君), there are several viewpoints . Some scholars have the opinion of the foundation of BC 3000, and other scholars insist on B.C. 4~5th. But these days most scholars have the similar view of around B.C 1000 that is the developing period of bronze culture in Liadong(遼東) area. On the location of the capital region, there are three point of view : Taedong river, Liadong and migration from Liadong to Taedong river. There are two different claims on the formation of Korean people; one is that Korean people is self-generated in the korean peninsula and the other is the migration from external area. The root of Korean people is from Han-Yemaek(韓濊貊) or from Tongi(東夷). Though there are several different viewpoints, the formation of Korean people and the substance of national culture is established at the same time as the foundation of the first state Old Chosŏn. Therefore south and north scholars should co-study on the ancient Korean culture such as dolman and Tangun, our founder of Korea beyond ideology. That is the shortcut to overcome two separate Korean systems and restore unique Korean community.
