광개토왕릉비의 건립 배경

영문 초록

King Gwanggaeto's tombstone was erected on 414 A.D. And 13 years later, the capital of Koguryo was moved to Pyungyangsong(平壤城). Article about war on inscription of the tombstone seems to be related with the southward expansion policy. In these contextual viewpoint, it makes possible that message or background about the movement of Pyungyangsong was contained on inscription. In this viewpoint, I try to review the characteristics of the tombstone inscription and erecting background of the tombstone. Pyungyangsong was mentioned three times on inscription of the tombstone. However Kungnaesong(國內城), the capital of Koguryo at those times, was never mentioned on that inscription. It may be for positive expectation regarding the movement to Pyungyangsong, future capital. Especially, Pyungyangsong was mentioned twice as a original place of war victory. It was intention that the movement of Pyungyangsong was possible requirement for overcoming Baekche and Wa, the enemies of Koguryo. Pyungyangsong was functioned as a practical capital at the era of King Kogukwon. After the death of King Kogukwon, the capital of Koguryo returned to Kungnaesong at the regime of King Sosurim. However, both King Kogukyang and King Gwanggaeto drove the capital movement to Pyungyangsong which functioned as a capital at the era of King Kogukwon. The capital movement to pyungyangsong was production of political intention through three generations of King Kogukwon, King Kogukyang, and King Gwanggaeto. Though mentioned on the context of the caretaker of a royal tomb, it is reviewed that the inscription specially mentioned gransfather king and father king of King Gwanggaeto, and three royal tombs of King Kogukwon, King Kogukyang, and King Gwanggaeto were located on the Gukgangsang. It is sure that these were related with willingness of the capital movement, and political activities in bringing Kungnaesong period to a close.
