영문 초록

This study investigated the cyber university students‘ perceptions of a web-based general English course. Data was collected from a survey conducted to 851 students enrolled in a General English course in the 2010 spring semester. The results of the quantitative analysis revealed that the students were satisfied with the course organization, class content, the use of multimedia, and team teaching between Korean instructors and native English-speaking teachers. However, students showed negative opinions toward content difficulty, student-teacher interaction, and the evaluation method. Concerning the learning effect of the class, the findings showed that the course was helpful in terms of overall English ability and motivation in learning English where as it was not in developing reading and speaking skills. In addition, the statistical results indicated that there were significant differences in the difficulty of class and the improvement of language ability among students according to their age and educational background. Based on the results, this study provides some pedagogical implications to improve the cyber university‘s general English course.
