국문 초록

이 연구는 일본에서‘아름다운 전통경관’이란 무엇을 의미하는가라는 문제의식에서 출발하여, 전통경관이 사회적 실천에 의해 정의되고 권력관계에 의해 제도화되며 이데올로기적으로 포섭됨을 밝히고자 하였다. 구체적으로 제도적 변천에 따라 일본의 전통경관을 크게 세 시기로 나누어 그 양상을 파악하였다. 제1기는 메이지에서 쇼와초기에 이르는 시기로 각 제도가 도입되고 정비되던 시기이다. 이 시기 전통경관은 국가주의 경관으로 명명된다. 제2기는 전후 고도성장기를 거쳐 거품경제기에 이른 시기로, 각 제도가 새로이 정비되고 확대되던 시기이다. 이 시기 전통경관은 조작주의 경관으로 명명된다. 제3기는 경관법 제정으로 문화적 경관이 전통경관의 범주에 들어선 시기인데, 이 시기의 전통경관은 본질주의 경관이라 할 수 있다. 시기에 따라 전통경관의 시공간적 범주와 물리적 범주는 상이하게 나타났으며, 그 판단 기준도 달랐다. 결과적으로 전통경관을 무엇이라고 정의할 수 있는 변함없는 존재라고 보기보다는 권력관계가 발현되는 정치적인 범주로 간주해야 한다.

영문 초록

This study came from a desire to think critically about‘ what beautiful traditional landscapes mean.’ I tried to reveal that traditional landscapes were defined and institutionalized by social practices and power relationships, so they involved ideological elements. The aspects of the traditional landscapes in Japan were divided into three periods and analyzed by institutional transition. The first period was from Meiji to early Showa, when the institution was introduced and organized. The traditional landscapes of this period were characterized as nationalism. The second period was from the era of high economic growth to the bubble economy, when each institution was newly organized and expanded. The traditional landscapes of this period were characterized as operationalism. Lastly, during the third period, the cultural landscapes were placed under the category of traditional landscapes, which could be identified as essentialism. The spatio-temporal and physical categories of traditional landscapes appeared differently and the criteria of judgment for traditional landscapes were interpreted variously by each period. As a result, the traditional landscapes should be recognized as political categories in which political relationships is manifest rather than as constant entities that can be clearly defined.
