대학의 교육사 교재에 나타난 광복 이후 교육사 서술의 제 문제

국문 초록

대학의 교육사 교재는 전문적인 역사연구서가 아니라 예비교사들로 하여금 한국의 교육현상에 대한 역사적 통찰력을 길러주기 위한 교과서이므로 그 목적을 달성할 수 있도록 서술되어야 한다. 이러한 문제의식을 가지고, 2000년 이후 출간된 ‘교육철학 및 교육사’ 교재들을 수집하여, 광복이후의 한국교육사에 대한 서술범위, 주요 서술내용, 그리고 서술방식을 분석하였다. 수집된 19종의 교재 중에서 7종은 광복이후의 교육사를 전혀 다루지 않았으며, 1990년대까지 언급하고 있는 교재는 단 4종뿐이었다. 따라서 광복이후의 교육사에 대한 서술은 양적인 면에서 매우 빈약하고 불충분했다. 서술방식에 있어서는 첫째, 대부분의 교재가 역사적 사건들을 구조화하지 못하고 평면적으로 나열하였으며, 둘째, 교육제도와 교육정책 중심으로 서술함으로써 교육이론이나 교육현장의 변화를 소홀하게 다루었고, 셋째, 주로 정부의 시각에서 서술함으로써 교사, 학생, 학부모 등 교육활동의 다양한 주체들의 입장이나 시각을 충분히 반영하지 못했다. 이러한 서술방식은 예비교사들에게 우리 교육현실을 바르게 이해하는 역사적 통찰력을 길러주기에는 미흡하다.

영문 초록

The 'history of education' textbooks for university students are not for professional historians but for prospective teachers. The aim of the textbooks is to give prospective teachers some historical insights on Korean education. To achieve this aim, description styles of history are very important. This study reviewed 19 textbooks of 'history of education' for university student which were published after 2000. The review focused on the descriptions of the textbooks on contemporary Korean history of education since 1945; the periodical ranges of description, major contents and styles of descriptions are analysed. Among 19 textbooks which were reviewed, 7 entirely omitted to describe that period, and only 4 included recent history of after 1990 period. The quantity of descriptions on contemporary Korean history of education since 1945 was very poor and insufficient. Most textbooks described educational events plainly, without structuring 'courses of events' or 'emplotment.' Main topics of description centered on educational systems and policies; educational theory and movements of the educational field were neglected. Most descriptions were made from the perspective of educational authorities, not those of teachers', parents' and pupils'. So the qualities of descriptions on contemporary Korean history of education since 1945 were not sufficient to give prospective teachers some historical insights on Korean education.
