영문 초록

In this paper, we would like to discuss the problems of history textbooks and history teaching through the movement by the Joint Symposium of Historical Studies between Korean and Japanese Societies related to historical studies and history teaching (below, J-K Symposium). As many people know, as soon as 'New Textbook of History'(below, 'New Textbook') edited by Japanese Society for History Textbook Reform (below, JSHTR), a history textbook for junior highschool students, passed the approval by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the mood of reexamining the way of history teaching rapidly was brought to light and many campaigns against 'New Textbook' and JSHTR were held. J-K Symposium held in 2001 and 2003 was too a part of these campaigns. It was a good opportunity that historians and history teachers in Korea and Japan discussed the common theme at the same place. As a result of these campaigns by scholars, teachers and civil campaigners, only 0.039 percent of 'New Textbook' were adopted, so we were able to felt relieved at that time. But now, we cannot help being more nervous about this problem to be confronted with the fact of reforming the Fundamental Law of Education, the compulsion of moral education and the prosperity of the discuss on reforming the Constitution of Japan and so on. From the viewpoint of history teaching, as JSHTR's movement for adoption of his textbooks is getting more active day by day, we are more anxious about the increase of the rate adopted his textbooks. From the cultural aspects, though we can see the friendly mood between Korea and Japan, we have to look for the way of the continuation of dialogue so as not to forget the modern history between Korea, east asian countries and Japan.
