죽음의 철학적 함의와 죽음교육의 필요성

국문 초록

본 논문은 인간의 이성에 현전하고 실존에 지대한 영향을 끼치는 ‘죽음’을 철학적으로 어떻게 이해할 수 있는지를 살 피고, 인간으로서는 해결 불가능한 ‘스칸달론(skandalon)’인 죽음을 의미 있는 인간조건, 더 나아가 생명문화를 고양하는 계기로 바꿀 수 있는 가능성으로 죽음교육을 강조하려한다. 우선 철학사에서 출현한 죽음에 관한 직관들을 세 개의 이상적 유형(Ideale Typen)으로 나누어, (1) 다른 생명으로 되어감의 과정, (2) 생명으로부터 분리, (3) 생명 조직화의 내적 원리에 관해 연구한다. 나는 칼 라너(Karl, Rahner)와 버너드 로너건(Bernard Lonergan)의 초월철학에 의지하여 이 삼자의 관점을 통합하여 삶과 죽음이 동시에 해명될 수 있는 지평을 마련한다. 초월철학은 죽음과 탄생이 어떻게 개체적 생명과 종적 생명 사이에서 생명의 원리로 작용하는지, 또 하나의 대자적 죽음이 어떻게 최종적인 즉자적 죽음 과 연결이 되는지를 잘 설명해 줄 것이다. 인간이 살아 있는 동안이나 죽어가는 순간이나 죽음은 생명의 원리, 영원한 지평을 열어주는 원리가 된다. 그 다음으로 인간에게 해소되지 않은 죽음에 대한 두려움, 두려움이 만드는 반생명적 현상, 죽음을 수긍해가는 심리적 단계를 살피면서 죽음교육의 가능성을 성찰한다. 마지막으로 초월철학의 효용성, 현대사회에서의 죽음교육의 중요성, 죽음의 생명현상으로의 적응을 성찰하면서 죽음교육의 필요성을 강조한다.

영문 초록

In this article I reflect on 'Death' which exists in and before human mind, and influences strongly upon the existence of man. And I try to emphasize the education of death as the possibility in which the unsolvable 'skandalon' death will be changed to the meaningful human condition, and further more to the chance to enhance the culture of life First of all I study many kinds of intuitions on death in the philosophical history while I divide these into three ideal types, namely (1) becoming process to the other life (2) separation from life (3) inner principle in life-structuring. I will be supported by the transcendental philosophy of Karl Rahner and Bernard Lonergan so that I integrate the viewpoints of three types into one horizon where life and death are simultaneously explained. The transcendental philosophy explain reasonably how death and birth as the principle of life act between an individual life and specific life, and how a death for itself is connected with the last death in itself. The death will be principle of life and of opening to the absolute horizon not just during life but in dying. Further more I reflect on the possibility of death' education in studying man's unsolved fears of death, anti-life culture made by this fears and psychic process accepting death. At last I stress the need of education on death while I examine the efficiency of the transcendental philosophy, the importance of death education in modern society and adaptation to death as phenomena of life.
