환경갈등에 대한 철학적 반성을 통한 자아실현

국문 초록

한 개인은 자아실현을 통해 어떠한 자아 정체성의 확립하였는지에 따라 사회적 성패가 결정된다. 확립된 자아 정체성이 개인의 욕망에만 충실하면 사회적으로 바람직하지 않은 결과를 가져오고 특히 자연과 관계되었을 때는 인류의 미래에도 매우 나쁜 영향을 줄 것이다. 그런데 경제 성장 위주의 사회 풍조 속에서 자아를 실현한 자아 정체성은 개인의 욕망을 채우는 것만이 선이 되고 사회적 공존과는 배치되기 쉬우며 더 나아가 지구 생태계의 지속성에도 심대한 부정적 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 자연 생태계의 생물 구성원들은 신체 능력의 모자람이 평화로운 공존의 지혜가 되어 조화를 이루고 있는 반면에 오늘날 인간은 모든 자연의 구성원을 욕구 충족의 수단으로만 보아서 이런 공존의 틀을 깨고 있다. 그리고 이런 극단의 예가 녹색 성장이라 는 미명 아래 추진되고 있는 생명 파괴의 4대강 사업이다. 이런 사업을 졸속으로 추진하는 까닭에 개인적인 욕구 충족의 이념이 자연과의 공존은 물론 사회 구성원의 공존을 추구하는 이념과 충돌하여 극단적인 환경갈등으로 나타난다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 문화적으로 퇴행적인 사업이 인류의 미래에 부정적인 영향을 주지 못하도록 하고 역사에 영예롭게 기록되기 위해서는 개인적인 욕구를 자제하고 자신의 욕구 충족과는 무관하게 사람은 물론 자연의 독립적인 내재적 가치를 인지하고 수용하는 자아실현을 통해 공존의 자아 정체성을 확립해야 한다.

영문 초록

A person can succeed socially depending on the self-identity that he/she has formed. If materialized self identity, however, just follows personal desire, the outcome would not be socially agreeable nor be acknowledged by the society. When the outcome deeply involves natural integrity, it will do harm profoundly to human future. Although the civilization with technology has overcome physical limitation of human body, excessive and distorted economic growth has built up relative deprivation and the deprivation stimulates peoples’s desire of nature destruction. The self-identity materialized compatible with such social drift recognizes only fulfilling personal desire as goodness, but might not be consistent with socialcoexistence. In fact, it will hinder the sustainability of the earth ecosystem so severely that it will cast a shadow on the future of human. Biological entities live and use natural entities under constraint of the physical limitation as they are borne. The physical limitation ensures peaceful coexistence of all the entities of nature as frugal wisdom. However, human seeks all the natural entities only in terms of satisfaction of human desire and disrupts natural harmony of coexistence. A unprecedented such example is the Four Major Rivers Project pushed ahead by Lee Myung-Bak Administration in Korea, which destroys life in the name of green growth. The project secures egocentric peoples who pursue personal desire. The rough-and-ready method of the project results in intense conflict between followers of egocentric desire and pursuers of harmonious coexistence with social and natural entities. To prevent such culturally retrogressive project from impacting human future negatively we have to materialize self-identity of coexistence, which recognizes and admits independent intrinsic value of natural entities in no connection with personal desire and is the key to the honorable history.
