영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to examine how language learners implement metacognitive reading strategies while reading texts. Metaconitive strategies allow readers to engage in thinking about their own thinking. In this research, students have been taught metacognitive strategies for reading in their English reading class for one semester. The reading class started with an explicit explanation of metacognitive reading strategies including global reading strategies, problem-solving strategies, and support reading strategies. The students have kept reading logs to reflect on their reading process, and at the end of the semester, they were asked to respond to a survey of reading strategies. The study found that Korean students use a similar range of strategies, but they are different in how they implement metacognitive strategies according to the levels of reading ability.
