국문 초록

본고는 ‘aa-하다’ 형용사가 국어의 어휘 체계 속에 상당한 비중을 차지하고 있음에도 그 존재 자체가 한 번도 본격적으로 부각된 적이 없었던 점을 반성하는 데서 출발하였다. 그리하여 ‘aa-하다’ 형용사를 이루는 어기 ‘aa’에 대하여 목록과 분포, 음운대응 양상, 그리고 의미상의 관련을 살펴보았다. 본고에서 제시한 ‘aa-하다’ 형용사는 모두 506항목으로 이 중 한자어가 261개, 고유어가 245개이다. ‘aa’들 간에 나타나는 음운대응 양상은 모음교체와 자음교체, 복합교체의 세 가지이다. 복합교체는 초성과 중성이 함께 교체를 보이는 예와 중성과 종성이 함께 교체를 보이는 예, 그리고 초성과 종성이 함께 교체를 보이는 예, 모두 세 가지가 있다. 의미 면에서 한자어는 ‘aa’의 의미가 비교적 투명하나 고유어는 그렇지 못하다. 고유어의 경우 한자어와 달리 어기 ‘aa’ 자체의 의미를 꼭 집어내기는 어렵지만 일정한 음운대응을 보이는 예들 사이에 일정한 의미상의 관련이 나타난다.

The primary purpose of this paper is to point out the existence of aa-hata adjectives. aa-hata adjectives are very important in the vocabulary of Korean, but their existence has not been attended to until recently. We examined the list, distribution, phonemic correspondence and semantic relatedness of aa-hata adjectives. aa-hata adjectives in Korean amount to 506 items, among which 261 items are Sino-Korean words and 245 items are native Korean words. The phonemic correspondences that appear in the aa-hata adjectives are of three kinds: vowel alternation, consonant alternation, and complex alternation. Complex alternation is in turn divided into three subtypes: alternation of onset and nucleus, alternation of nucleus and coda, and alternation of onset and coda. As for semantics, the senses of Sino-Korean words are transparent, while the senses of native Korean words are opaque. In compensation for semantic opaqueness, native Korean aa-hata adjectives show semantic relatedness parallel to phonemic relatedness.(Seoul National University)
