국문 초록

본고는 ‘X잖/찮-’ 형용사를 판별하고 그 과정 중에 드러나는 ‘X잖/찮-’ 형용사의 특징을 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. ‘X잖/찮-’ 형용사는 ‘X(하)지 않-’의 축약형 ‘X잖/찮-’이 어휘화되어 형성된 것으로 설명되어 왔다. 이러한 설명을 근거로 ‘X잖/찮-’ 형태가 의미의 변화를 일으키거나 ‘X(하)-’와 공시적으로 형태적 연관성을 잃은 것으로 의심되는 단어들을 중심으로 어휘화된 형태를 판별하였다. 단어에 따라 어휘화의 정도에 차이를 보인다. ‘귀찮-, 점잖-’ 등은 해당 형태 모두 어휘화된 형용사에 해당하는 데 비해 ‘같잖-, 마땅찮-’등은 어휘화된 형용사뿐만 아니라 ‘X(하)지 않-’의 축약형에 해당하는 형태도 발견된다. 따라서 ‘귀찮-, 점잖-’ 등은 해당 형태가 완전히 어휘된 것으로 인식되는 데 반해 ‘같잖-, 마땅찮-’등은 어휘화 인식 정도가 낮을 것으로 예상된다. 또한 ‘X잖/찮-’이 ‘X지/치 않-’의 형태로 대치되어 쓰이기도 하는데 이러한 쓰임은 어원 정보가 간여하여 오분석을 일으킨 결과로 여겨진다. ‘X지/치 않-’의 형태로도 많이 쓰이는 ‘X잖/찮-’ 형용사 또한 해당 형태의 어휘화 인식 정도가 낮을 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to distinguish ‘Xcanh/chanh-’ adjectives from ‘Xcanh/chanh-’ contractions and to inquire into the characteristics of ‘Xcanh/chanh-’ adjectives. ‘Xcanh/chanh-’ adjectives have been explained as lexicalized derivations in ‘Xcanh/chanh-’ from the negation structure ‘X(ha)ci anh-’. On the basis of this explanation, and focusing on words where the ‘Xcanh/chanh-’ structure has either undergone semantic change or has lost its synchronic connection with the related pattern in 'X(ha)-', we can distinguish lexicalized forms. Different words show differing degrees of lexicalization. For example, whereas ‘kwichanh-’ and ‘cemcanh-’ have been completely lexicalized, ‘kathcanh-’ and ‘mattangchanh-’ can be analyzed as lexicalized adjectives or as contractions of the ‘X(ha)ci anh-’ pattern. Moreover, some of the ‘Xcanh/chanh-’ adjectives can appear in the form‘Xci/chi anh-’. Such usages are considered to be result of misanalysis due to the interference of etymological information, and are presumed to be low in their extent of lexicalization.
