부정 보문소 ‘-지’와 ‘-를’, ‘-가’의 통합 양상

국문 초록

현대국어의 부정 보문소 ‘-지’ 뒤에는 ‘-를’과 ‘-가’가 통합될 수 있으나 이때 ‘-지’에 선행하는 서술어가 무엇인지에 따라 통합 여부가 달라진다. 이러한 양상이 현대 국어 이전 시기에도 동일했는지, 그렇지 않다면 어떠한 과정을 거쳐 현대국어에 이르게 되었는지 고찰하는 것이 이 글의 일차적인 목적이다. 이를 위해 먼저 ‘-지를’과 ‘-지가’가 처음 나타나는 19세기 문헌자료를 살펴 당시의 통합 환경과 현대국어의 통합 환경을 대비하였다. 이를 바탕으로 19세기에는 선행 서술어가 동사인 경우에만 통합되던 ‘-지를’이 분포 확장을 경험하였고 그 원인은 또 다른 부정 보문소 ‘-들’의 기능 약화ㆍ소실에 있음을 제시하였다. ‘-지를’과 반대로 ‘-지가’는 19세기에 선행 서술어가 형용사인 경우에만 출현하는 것이 일반적 현상임을 지적하였다.

영문 초록

Case markers, '-lul' or '-ka', can be attached to the negative complementizer '-ci'. Whether '-lul' or '-ka' can be attached to it varies depending on the nature of a predicate which precedes '-ci'. The goal of this paper is two-fold; first, this paper examines whether the same kind of phenomenon can be found in pre-modern Korean. Second, if this is not the case, this paper tries to identify what specific procedure this change went through. For this, this paper investigates the literature of 19th centuries where '-cilul' and '-cika' occur for the first time, comparing the syntagmatic environments of this era with those of modern Korean. Based on this observation, this paper found that '-cilul', which occurs only when the preceding predicate is a verb in 19th century, experienced extensions in distributions. The main reason for this is argued to lie in the fact that the function of another negative complementizer '-tul' has been weakened. Contrary to the case of '-cilul', it is pointed out that '-cika', in general, occurs when the preceding predicate is an adjective in 19th century.
