다문화교육의 내용체계 구축과 실천방안

국문 초록

우리나라의 다문화교육은 2000년 이후 우리 사회가 빠른 속도로 다문화화하면서 관심의 대상이 되었다. 그러나 비교적 짧은 역사로 인해, 학교에서의 교사들은 다문화교육 실시에 혼란을 겪고 있다. 현재 한국에서의 다문화교육은 그 내용과 범위가 명확하게 제시되어 있지 못하며, 국가 차원에서도 이에 대한 방향 제시가 미흡한 실정이다. 본 논문은 한국을 포함한 6개국의 다문화교육 실시 현황을 분석하여 다문화교육의 주요 내용을 구축하여 제시하고 있다. 분석결과 다문화교육의 내용은 크게 문화간 이해, 다양성 인식, 평등과 사회정의, 세계시민의식 등 네 가지 범주로 분류되었다. 또한 각 범주별로 핵심 구성요소와 함께 각 구성요소에 대한 세부 교육내용이 제시되었다. 결론에서는 교육내용의 구축과 교육 실시상의 문제점 분석을 기초로 한국에서의 다문화교육 발전을 이루기 위한 실천적 과제를 교육대상, 교육과정, 교사교육, 교수법의 차원에서 제안하였다. 제안된 실천과제에는 교육 대상의 범위 확대, 전 교육과정에서의 다문화교육 실시, 교사연수 및 교사교육의 강화, 다문화아동에게 적합한 교수법의 개발 등이 포함되었다.

영문 초록

Multicultural education in Korea has begun to draw attention from the beginning of 21st century, as our society moves fast toward a multicultural society. Because of its relatively short history of teaching multiculturalism in school, teachers in Korea are confused about how to implement it. Presently the scope and contents of multicultural education are not clearly defined and the directions are not provided on a national level. This study analyzed the cases of multicultual education in 6 countries including Korea in a way to find out major contents of multicultural education. Four dimension of educational contents were emerged from the analysis: cross-cultural understanding, awareness of diversity, equity and social justice, and world citizenship. A further analysis revealed major components in each dimension with their itemized educational contents. Based on the construction of educational contents and the analysis of difficulties in accomplishing educational objectives in multicultual education, tasks for the development of multicultural education in Korea were suggested: enlargement of educational beneficiaries, implementation of multicultural education throughout the curriculum, reinforcement of multiculturalism in teacher education, and development of teaching methods suitable for minority students.
