중학생의 과학성취도에 영향을 미치는 변인의 한.미간 비교분석

국문 초록

TIMSS 2007 데이터를 이용하여 본 연구는 중학생의 과학성취도에 영향을 미치는 변인에 대해 한국과 미국을 비교.분석하는데 그 목적이 있었다. 선행연구 및 이론에 기초하여 본 연구에 포함된 변인은 크게 학생특성 변인, 가정배경 변인, 과학관련 태도 변인, 학교 과학학습활동 변인, 학교 밖 활동 변인이었다. 한국 중학교 2학년생 4,240명과 미국 중학교 2학년생 7,319명을 대상으로 기술통계와 중다회귀분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과, 과학성취도에 큰 영향을 미친 변인은 한국의 경우 학생특성(교육포부수준)과 가정배경 변인(부의 교육수준, 가정의 책보유량), 과학관련 태도 변인(과학 효능감)이었다. 미국의 경우 학생특성(성)과 가정배경 변인(가정의 책보유량)이었다. 특히 미국의 경우 학생의 성이 회귀모형 전체에 걸쳐 과학성취도에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 주요 결과에 대한 시사점과 정책적 제언이 논의되었다.

영문 초록

Using TIMSS 2007 data, the study explored the comparison analysis between Korea and America on the variables which influence the middle school student’s science achievement. Based on previous research and theory, the study included student characteristics variables, family background variables, science-related attitude variables, school science learning activity variables, and extra-curricula activity variables. Descriptive and multiple regression analysis were performed using 4,240 of 2nd graders in Korea and 7,319 of 2nd graders in America. Results showed that the main variables influencing science achievement were student characteristics variables(educational aspiration level), family background variables(father’s educational level and the amount of books at home), and science-related attitude variable(science efficacy) for Korea. And the main variables influencing science achievement were student characteristics variables(gender) and family background variables(the amount of books at home) for America. Especially, the student’s gender influenced significantly science achievement in the whole regression model. The suggestions and political ideas for the results were discussed.
