국문 초록

이야기 과제를 이용한 평가는 아동의 이야기 구성 능력 뿐 아니라 언어적 표현 능력까지 파악할 수 있다는 장점이 있고 특히 담화상황의 평가가 중시되는 학령기 아동에게는 더욱 유용할 수 있다. 본 연구는 초등 저학년 아동의 이야기 구성, 구문 표현, 결속표지 사용의 능력을 살펴보고 이 세 요소들 간의 상관관계를 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 이야기 구성력인 이야기문법명제회상율, 에피소드 구성점수와 구문 표현력인 주절 및 종속절의 수, C-unit당 절의 수, 복잡한 구문의 수가 학년 상승에 따라 증가하였다. 결속표지 사용능력인 적절한 결속표지의 수는 학년 상승에 따라 증가하였고, 부적절한 결속표지 사용율은 감소하였다. 또한 이야기문법명제회상율과 C-unit당 절의 수 그리고 적절한 결속표지 수의 세 요소는 정적인 상관관계를 보였다. 이 같은 결과는 우리나라 초등 저학년 아동의 이야기구성력, 구문 표현력, 결속표지 사용능력이 학년에 따라 발달함을 보여주는 것이며 이 세 요소들이 모두 함께 발달함을 보여준다. 이는 학령기 아동의 언어평가 및 치료에서 구문 표현 뿐만 아니라 이야기 구성과 결속표지의 사용을 모두 고려해야 함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Little is known about the narrative ability of school-aged children in Korea. This study addresses the narrative ability of 30 Korean, school-aged children in first to third grades. The children’s story-retelling productions were analyzed by three measures: story composition, syntactic expression and use of cohesive devices. Each measure has several variables. The measure of story composition consists of two variables: the percentage of story grammar recall and the complete episode composition scale. The number of main clauses and subordinate clauses, the number of subordinate clauses in a C-unit and the number of complex syntactic C-units are contained in the measure of syntactic expression. The measure of cohesive devices includes variables of the number of adequate cohesive devices and the percentage of inadequate cohesive devices. In all variables of the three measures, narrative ability developed with increasing grade from 1st to 3rd. The three measures were strongly, positively and significantly correlated with the following variables: the percentage of story grammar recall, complete episode composition scale, the number of subordinate clauses in a C-unit and the number of adequate cohesive devices. This result implies that story composition, syntactic expression and use of cohesive devices are all very important for language assessment and intervention in Korean-speaking children.
