영문 초록

Yagi Kazuo was one of the most significant Japanese ceramic artists. he has greatly contributed to the conceptual development of the contemporary movement in Japan. Despite his death 25 years ago, his works remain to play a great role in impacting japanese ceramic even today. In Korea, Yagi Kazuo is synonymous to artists such as Suzuki Osamu, Yamada Hikalu as they were all responsible for creating the avantgard group, Soudeisha, in 1948. In 1954, they presented their works "A Walk of Mr Zamuza" Despite his achievements and his successful career in Japan, there have been far too few attempts to research his value and contribution and as a result there is limited knowledge of him and his works in Korea. This research is a compilation of many works, however, a great portion of the research could not have been completed without the use of Unagami's 『Today's Contemporary Ceramics』. Much credit for this study can also be contributed to the catalog of Yagi's retrospective works. Yagi's family background as well as his educational background and career timeline were of great importance in this research as one of the results is the classification of Yagi's works in respects to specific periods of his life and ever-developing This thesis is a detailed retrospective view of Yagi's life and contributions to the ceramics community. Although he was a figure of paramount importance in Japan, this thesis recognizes the value of his contributions towards the development of contemporary ceramics worldwide.
