국문 초록

본 논문은 惠岡 崔漢綺의 가계를 통해 그 사회적 지위의 상승과정을 알아보고, 학문생애를 통해 그의 학문의 대체적 편력을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 혜강은 당시의 심각한 사회적‧시상적 소용돌이 속에서 ‘氣學(기학)’이라는 그 나름의 독자적 학문체계를 열어 나갔다. 본 연구는 최한기 사상의 보다 객관적인 검토를 위해 혜강이 생존했던 시기의 네 왕조(純祖, 憲宗, 哲宗, 高宗)의 실록을 중심으로 한 시대적인 사상의 흐름에 초점을 맞춰 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The study of Toegye is a practical humanism as a moral philosophy aiming completion of humanity, and the concrete contents are "Li"(principle), "Sa-Dan-Chil-Jeong"(a debate of four natural mind clues and of seven fundamental emotions), "In-Shim-Toe-Shim"(the privatized human mind, the universal mind of the way), and "Kyeong"(a kind of mindful or self-possessed awareness). In Toegye's thought "Li" have a relation with "Ki"(vital force) and "unmixable and inseparable", and it is a standard and criterion by which it is supported by "Kyeong" it can be all the subject of all the work keeping a concrete practical power. That is, though our mind equips the "Li", it cannot function practically if it is not supported by the "Kyeong". The "Kyeong" should perform the supportability successively on the aspect of result of the behavior as well as on the point of time of the behavior. Toegye's scholarly purpose lies in the pursue of nature of humanness and human virtue through self reflection, therefore, his scholarship is called as a study for oneself. He regarded a person's own reflection and actual practice important rather than the search for the cosmology or conceptual awareness of the truth. The important theme for him, therefore, was not in the question of "how one be able to know" but in the "how on be able to practice". Hence. His scholarship takes humanness and uprightness the most important. His scholarship is reflected in 『Jaseongrok』. It is not following ostentatious display for fame and wealth but initiating study to mind attainment and self practice. Toegye asserts that if one accumulates the study for a long time rooting in common, plain, fruitful, and daily life, he can reach a far and high degree naturally, and that ' a world belongs to the principles' cannot be separated from ' a world belongs to a concrete practice' in Sunghaksipdo(Ten Diagrams on the Learning of the Sages). Like this, he insisted that if one connects the thing belonging with the principles and the thing belonging to the practice each other, and if one lives a life based on the cognition and practice about the Ultimate good, he can reach the degree enlightening the inside principles little by little. In Confucianism, the daily life education is calssified into the study of "Kyeong" as a growing education and the study of self-control as a removing study. These two always make progress together, and the essential and fundamental thing is the "Kyeong". In the Toegye's philosophy, the daily life as a special situation has a meaning of embodiment place of "Kyeong". That is, if the 「Diagram of the Admonition on Rising Early and Retiring Late」 deals with the daily matters as a timely situation, the 「Diagram of the Admonition for Mindfulness Stiduo」 deals with the daily life as a spacial situation. Especially, if the 「Diagram of the Admonition for Mindfulness Studio」 questions the methodology of how we make the "Kyeong" intrinsic in this daily life, the 「Diagram of the Admonition on Rising Early and Retiring Late」 says of a daily practice of the "Kyeong" as a study of "Kyeong" of a day. But the exercise of mindfulness study doesn't stop at the daily practice, but should be continued for a life, as a mind study. Toegye saw that the reason to learn is for the mind and the principles, and that a mind controlling a body is emptiness, so it can cognize the principles of all of the universe, so he asserted that the method lies in "Gung-Li"(exhaustively investigation reason) and "Kyeong". About the importance of "Gung-Li" and "Kyeong", Toegye said that it cannot be the truth intelligence until one experiences through the practice doing "Gung-Li", and that one can have a gain, if one doesn't confuse one's mind. As for the method to reach the truth intelligence, Toegye said that one sets up the foundation by doing "Kyeong", considers and establishes the learning by study of the "Li", and practices by oneself reflecting oneself, and that when these
