준거참조검사의 타당도 검증방안에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 논문은 준거참조검사의 타당도의 그 이론적 배경을 소개하고 그 의미와 접근 방법을 살피고자 한다. 또한 가능한 형태의 준거참조검사 타당도를 실제로 검증해 보는 노력이 향후 우리나라 준거참조검사의 발전으로 연결되기를 바라면서 제한된 준거참조검사나마 분석 대상으로 삼아서 그 타당도를 검증해 보고 관련 쟁점에 대해 논의하고자 한다.

영문 초록

Criterion-Referenced Test (CRT) is constructed to permit test score users to assess examinee performance in relation to one or more well-defined objectives, sometimes called competencies. Although teachers have been encouraged to use Criterion-Referenced Evaluation (CRE) to evaluate students' academic achievement level in schools, the use of norm-referenced evaluation has been more prevalent. Also, few studies on validation the performance standard associated with cut-off scores in CRT had been done in Korea, even though the utility and the importance of CRE are well recognized in educational setting. The purpose of this study is to introduce conceptual issues about the validity of CRT and to review a set of methods for conducting validation studies of CRT scores. With respect to CRTs, two assumptions were made : 1) The cut-off score corresponds to the specified achievement standard and 2) the specified achievement standard is appropriate for its intended purpose of the decision. These two assumptions can be checked by different types of evidence from the procedures used to set the cut-off score, internal consistency of judges in setting the standards, and external criteria to compare the original decision. The advantages and the limitations of these methods were also discussed here. It should be noted, however, that the validity of a set of cut-off score and/or related mastery-nonmastary decisions can never be demonstrated conclusively; instead, evidence is accumulated to determine if the test scores and/or resulted decisions appear to be serving their intended purpose. Eventually, when a sufficient amount of evidence is collected, a judgment can be made about the validity of the performance standards and/or decisions for the intended use.
