국문 초록

2009 개정 교육과정 체제가 출범하면서 도덕과 교육의 입지는 더욱 좁아지고 있다. 이 글에서는 이 문제를 좁게는 도덕과 안의 문제에, 넓게는 교육 본연의 목적에 초점을 맞추어 분석해 보고자 하였다. 전자가 현대 교육의 기능적 하위 체제로 전락한 ‘도덕과’의 위상 변천 과정과 원인을 규명하려는 작업이라면 후자는 ‘도덕 교육’을 교육의 핵심적인 한 내포로 자리매김 시키기 위한 노력에 해당한다. 분석의 결과 현대 교육 체제 내에는 처음부터 본래적 의미의 도덕 교육이 자리할 공간이 없었으며, ‘도덕 교과’ 안에서의 ‘도덕 교육’의 부재라는 역설은 그 당연한 귀결이라는 것이다. 이 글에서는 그 해결 방안으로 ‘이성적인 마음(rational mind)’이 아닌 ‘현실적인 마음(心: mind in body)’에 주목할 것을 제안하면서 그 구체적인 범례를 Slot의 도덕 교육이론과 주희(朱熹)를 정점으로 하는 성리학(性理學)의 마음 이론에서 찾아보고자 하였다.

영문 초록

Moral subject education will lose ground in revised national curriculum system on 2009. In the paper, we tried to find the reason why moral education and moral subject education were in the crisis of identity which can not justify their position in schooling. By analyzing previous moral subject curriculum before formally announcing revised national curriculum on 2009, we found that moral subject education was only passive functional subordinate system which could not pursue its own object. There was no room for moral education in contemporary educational system, in which education was defined as a tool of achieving the goal of supporting by government or society. But there is the claim that moral education has a intrinsic aim as the connotation of education. According to this argument, it can be surmounted the dilemma that we teach moral subject without moral education. It means that we have to effort to find a new paradigm for supporting moral education as the part of education itself. To proceed this work, we examined sentimentalist ethics of virtue which was Slot’s theory and Neo-confucian mind theory which was synthesized by Zhu-Xi. Finally, we concluded that there would be necessary to harmonize desire and reason which were based on the body and mind.
