국문 초록

한 과학영재교육원의 초등 6학년 ~ 중학 3학년의 161명 학생들에게 정서지능 검사와 여러 학교 관련 적응 행동을 측정하는 검사를 실시하였다. 응답 자료에 대한 요인 분석 결과, ‘정서 인식 표현’, ‘감정이입’, ‘정서 조절’, ‘정서 활용’의 4개 정서지능 요인이 확인되었다. 일련의 상관관계 분석 결과는 정서지능의 요인들과 학교 관련 적응 행동 요인들간의 유의한 정적 관련성을 보여 주었다. 또한 ‘정서 인식표현’과 ‘정서 조절’ 등 2개의 정서지능 요인이 측정된 모든 스트레스 요인들과 유의하게 관련되어 있었는데, 이는 자신의 정서를 보다 잘 인식하고 조절할 줄 아는 영재학생들이 그들의 학교생활에서 더 적은 스트레스를 느낀다는 것을 말해 준다. 상관분석과 변량분석 결과는 영재학생들의 정서 인식표현과 정서 활용이 문제 해결과 도움 요청 등 보다 적응적인 스트레스 대처 행동의 활용에 대한 유의한 예언 변인임을 보여 주었다. 이러한 모든 결과들은 영재학생들이 학교생활에 보다 더 잘 적응할 수 있도록 돕기 위하여 여러 측면의 정서지능들을 함양시킬 필요가 있음을 제안하고 있다.

영문 초록

This study tries to find possible relations between gifted students' emotional intelligence and their perceptions of social and emotional adjustment behaviors in school. One hundred and sixty one 6th to 9th grade students enrolled in a training program for the gifted students in science were assessed on their emotional intelligence and several school related adjustment factors. An item factor analysis produced four dimensions of emotional intelligence named “emotional appraisal”, “empathy”, “emotional regulations” and “emotional utilization”. A series of correlation analyses showed significant relations between all dimensions of emotional intelligence and social skill subscales, then and school adjustment subscales. Two emotional intelligence dimensions (emotional appraisal and emotional regulation) were found to be significantly correlated to the degrees of stress felt in all the aspects measured, which means the gifted students with high emotional appraisal and emotional regulation abilities felt less stress in their school lives. Lastly the results of correlation analysis and one-way ANOVA showed gifted students' emotional appraisal and emotional utilization were important predictors for their employment of more adaptive stress coping behaviors including problem solving and seeking for support. All these results were interpreted to suggest for the need to promote for improving the aspects of emotional intelligence in order to help the gifted students get adjusted more fully to their school lives.
