다문화교육을 위한 교수·학습 프로그램의 개발 방향 모색

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 다문화교육을 위해 개발된 다양한 교수·학습 프로그램의 현황과 한계를 탐색 하고, 교수·학습 프로그램에 대한 현장 교사들의 요구를 분석하여 향후 현장에서 활용도 높은 프로그램을 개발하기 위한 시사점을 도출함과 동시에 다문화교육을 실행하는 교수·학습의 기본 틀에 대해 논의하였다. 연구 결과 다문화교육을 위한 교수·학습 프로그램은 학생들이 다문화 사회를 함께 살아가는데 필요한 지식과 기능 및 태도를 갖추도록 교육하는데 궁극적인 목적을 두어야 한다는 점을 확인하였다. 이를 위해서 다문화교육 프로그램은 한국 학생들과 다문화가정 학생 모두를 대상으로, 자신의 문화나 다른 문화에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 다문화사회에서 부딪히는 문제를 인식하고 해결하는 내용을 중심 주제로 개발되어야 한다. 또한 학교에서 교사가 수업 시간 동안 학생과 함께 사용하는 주요 텍스트로서 다문화교육 프로그램은 교사의 교수·학습 활동을 지원할 수 있어야 하고, 현장에 널리 보급되는 것은 물론 교사가 자신의 수업 상황에 맞게 재구성하여 사용할 수 있도록 서지자료의 형태 보다는 디지털자료의 형태로 개발될 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

We are nowadays confronting debates and various problems raised in the Korean society as a multicultural environment. To meet the need of multicultural education, we are also able to witness recent endeavors from Korean scholarly and educational field. Developing teaching and learning programs for multicultural education is one of those efforts. Previous literature and research claim that any teaching and learning programs for multicultural education should put the focus on helping students to possess knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to live in multicultural society as future citizens. Keeping this in mind, this study aims to identify principles for developing teaching and learning programs in the area of multicultural education. In order to do that, this study analysed the current multicultural education programs in use and in-service teachers' demand in terms of survey. The results can be summarized as follows. First of all, the demand for multicultural education was rather high in elementary schools. Based on the 2007 revised version of National Curriculum in elementary school, teaching and learning program should be developed in subject is such as Korean language, social studies, ethics, and extracurricular classes. Secondly, the value of diversity and identity were primary themes highly demanded for teaching and learning programs. The attitude of respect for other cultures and human right were identified as important issues that should be addressed in multicultural education. Therefore, teaching and learning programs for multucultural education should contain themes such as understanding cultural diversity, exploring students' own identity, respect for human rights and justice, and developing problem solving skills. Finally, teachers also asked for a digitized format rather than a printed version, containing teaching and learning strategies or key concepts related to multicultural education. In addition to containing introduction to multicultural education and application manual, the teaching and learning programs should be developed and distributed on-line so that teachers are able to access and modify them easily up to their own goals and interest.
