사회과 교육과정 기준에 대한 비교 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 우리나라의 사회과 교육과정과 미국 NCSS의 사회과 교육 과정에 제시된 성취기준의 특징을 비교, 분석하고 향후 성취기준 개발에 시사점을 도출하기 위한 것이다. 내용분석을 위하여 3인의 전문가가 체계적인 절차에 의해 성취기준을 코딩하고 이를 컨텐츠 맵을 통해 시각화함으로써 특징적인 차이에 대해 살펴본 것이다. 연구결과, 우리나라의 교육과정은 역사 지리 영역의 지식 이해 부분이 가장 강조되고 있었으며, 상대적으로 가치 태도에 대한 학습비중이 높았다. 미국의 NCSS 사회과 교육과정 기준은 지리와 관련된 내용이 비교적 많았으나 역사와 각 사회과학의 범주가 비교적 균형적으로 다루어지고 있었으며, 시민적 이상의 실천, 참여 지식 활용에 대한 목표가 보다 강조되고 있었다. 이 연구의 제한점은 단지 성취기준 문서만을 비교했다는 것이며 이에 비교된 차이에 대한 역사적, 문화적 정치적 해석이 후속적으로 보완될 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

The study aims to compare and analyze the social studies curriculum standards of Korea and US. In order for methodological strictness, three experts are employed to code each statement of educational objectives in the standards document and then the results are aggregated into one data set to be analysed in terms of the ratio of each subject areas. As a result, facts of knowledge and understanding of concepts are emphasized especially in the domain of history and geography rather than social sciences as politics, sociology and economy in Korea. In contrast, in US geography is great deal of weight on social studies standards, but, compared to Korea, a balance, by and large, maintains across the subject areas. Although not much highlighted, civic action and democratic ideal are more linked to related curriculum contents in US than Korea social studies standards. In Korea value and attitude are prominent to be cultivated as important instructional objectives while in the US standards lay relative weight on the process of applying what they learned. However, it should be noticed the analysis in this research is limited to the document and mechanical comparison deserves caution. Instead further investigation on the political, cultural, and ideological reasoning is supplemented by the successive research efforts.
