한국 출판학 연구의 동향과 진전에 대한 매트릭스 분석

국문 초록

언론학과의 연계학문으로서 인지되고 있는 출판학 연구는 사실상 언론 이전의 시원적 학문으로서의 확고한 정체성을 갖고 있다. 우리나라에서의 출판학 연구 역시 50년이라는 짧지 않은 역사를 누적하면서 나름대로 독자적이면서 학제간 교차학문으로 성장해왔다. 이 논문은 출판학이 50년의 역사를 경과하고 출판학회가 40년의 역사를 누적하는 시점에서, 출판학회 30년사를 정리했던 2000년 이후부터 현재 출판학의 현황과 특징, 문제점을 진단하여 매트릭스화하는 동시에, 이를 토대로 앞으로 출판학이 지향해야 할 정체성과 발전방향을 제안하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 이와 같은 매트릭스를 통해 현재의 출판학 연구의 좌표를 제공하는 동시에, 문제를 탐구하는 데에 필요하다고 생각하는 쟁점들을 출판학 연구영역의 특징, 연구주제의 다원성, 연구방법의 호환성에 대한 접근방식 등을 중심으로 문제를 제기하는 방식으로 논의해보았다. 총체적으로 볼 때, 출판학 연구는 2000년대 이후, 그 이전에 비해 양적으로 팽창했으나, 질적인 측면에서 출판학이라는 학문적 정체성에 대한 고민이 충분하지 못했으며, 여전히 출판현상을 이론적으로 체계화하려는 시도 또한 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 방법론에 있어서도 여전히 단선적 연구가 많은 편이었다. 출판학이 인문·사회과학의 정신사적 주류의 위치를 되찾고 질적 도약을 이룩하기 위해서는, 다음과 같은 과제가 필요하다고 제언한다. 첫째, 연구대상 및 주제의 선정이나 이론적 틀의 모색에서, 출판사나 출판현상을 문헌연구의 틀에서 정리·설명하는 데 그치는 방식으로부터 벗어나 시각의 폭을 넓힐 필요가 있다. 둘째, 유관 사회과학 분야의 새로운 이론적 흐름 및 방법론에 좀 더 호환적이고 개방적인 자세로 전환하여 인접분야와의 학제간 연구(inter-disciplinary)는 물론 다원적이면서도 다각적인 복합 학제간 연구(multi-disciplinary)를 수용하며, 이론적 실증적 실험을 시도해야 한다. 셋째, 현실에 대한 이해에서 비롯되는 인문과학적 규범성과 보다 비판적이고 다원적 접근이 가능한 사회과학적 이론을 조화시키는 시각 및 이론의 확대가 필요하다. 그리고 보다 다양한 방법으로 정량화, 계량화할 수 있는 실증적인 방법론의 폭 넑은 접합 등으로 학술적 깊이와 지평을 넓히는 것이 절실하다.

영문 초록

Generally, it is known that publishing study is adjacent to journalism & communication study. As a matter of fact, publishing study has had a scholarly original identity for a long time before journalism & communication study. Korean publishing study has developed as an independent and interdisciplinary academic identity for 50 years which in never a short history. Therefore, we put 10 years in order after 2000 in which 『Korean Publishing Science Society 30 years History』(2000) had been published. In this study, our study team has developed a kind of matrix methodology which can evaluate the coordinates of current characteristics, the problems and subjects of inquiry. Upon those, we suggest some directions and a firmer identity of Korean publishing study in order to advance. For our study purpose, we provide some coordinates of current decade Korean publishing study through matrix methodology, and discuss some issues involving study fields, characteristics of themes, and approach methodology for multiplicity and interactivity. The result shows that current decade of Korean publishing study has expanded quantitatively, but on the other hand it has been not enough on agony, or trial to develop the identity and theoretically systemization of publishing study. Thus, we suggest some assignments to be able to retrieve its former position as a main stram of humane and social science, and to achieve qualitative development. Firstly, it is necessary to enlarge the range of our knowledge overemphasized in study fields and themes. Secondly, it is necessary to open new theoretical stream, Accepting inter-disciplinary or multi-disciplinary study, and approaching methodology for multiplicity and interactivity, we have to experiment theoretically. Thirdly, it is necessary to deepen and widen our knowledge. Accepting and experimenting quantitative and metric methodology positively, we have to mach well with both normative humane science and theoretical social science.
