국문 초록

2000년 ‘영재교육진흥법’ 제정이후 영재교육은 국가 정책차원 뿐 아니라 교육현장에서 지대한 관심을 받고 있다. 이와 관련하여 많은 사회 여론 지도층 인사들과 전문가들은 영재가 창의적 인재로 자라남과 동시에 사회적 리더로 자라날 수 있도록 영재의 인성교육, 리더십교육, 정서교육을 주문하고 있다. 이러한 리더십 교육의 필요성에 따라 한국교육개발원에서 영재의 리더십 함양을 위한 프로그램이 개발되었다. 이는 우리 사회구성원의 영재 리더십에 대한 인식조사와 성인리더의 특성조사를 수행한 결과를 토대로 하였을 뿐 아니라 영재의 리더십을 구성하는 구성요인을 분석함과 더불어 타당성과 신뢰성을 갖춘 리더십 검사도구를 개발함과 함께 추진되었다. 개발된 리더십 프로그램은 총 24종으로 ‘비전’, ‘자신감’, ‘자기관리’, ‘도덕성’, ‘과제책임감’, ‘의사소통’, ‘타인배려’, ‘사회헌신’ 등 8가지 교육 목표를 교사가 탐색, 발전, 심화 단계를 선택하여 사용할 수도 있도록 하였다. 리더십은 이론적인 학습보다는 학생들의 자긍심과 정서적인 지지를 해 줄 수 있는 활동이 중요하기 때문에 역할극, 모델링, 현장답사, 대중 발표 등의 다양한 활동 중심의 프로그램으로 개발하였다. 또한 리더십 검사도구를 통해 강약점을 진단하여 학생에게 필요한 리더십 프로그램을 선택적으로 융통성 있게 실시할 수 있는 맞춤형 리더십 교육이 가능하도록 설계되어 우리나라 영재의 리더십 교육 정책 방향 수립 및 현장을 지원하는 초석이 되어줄 것이다.

영문 초록

Since 2000 when ‘Gifted Education Promotion Act’ had established, gifted education drew attention from the various parts of the society including educators and policy makers. Regarding this, many opinion leaders and experts have emphasized on socio-emotional aspects of gifted education such as development of character and leadership skills of the gifted so that they successfully become the future good leaders of the society. To address this issue, the National Research Center for Gifted and Talented Education at KEDI(Korean Educational Development Institute) conducted the five years of research on leadership including extensive literature review and a meta-analysis of leadership components, development of a leadership inventory, a survey on Korean people’s expectations for gifted children’s leadership, and a study of current Korean adult leaders’ leadership characteristics. Based on the series of the studies, KEDI Leadership Program for the gifted was finally developed. KEDI Leadership Program is composed of twenty-four teacher guidebooks which identified eight specific targets for leadership education such as ‘vision’, ‘confidence’, ‘self-control’, ‘morality’, ‘responsibility’, ‘communication skills’, ‘caring for others’, and ‘commitment to the society’ in three levels of program for each eight target. The program basically has an activity-orientation which generates plenty of student-teacher and peer interactions for the gifted to practice and enhance their leadership skills. Although further studies are necessary to test the effectiveness of this program, the program itself conveys the message to the field about the importance of leadership education for the gifted.
