초등학교 수학영재의 수학교과 선행학습 정도와 수학 창의적 문제해결력의 관계

국문 초록

  현재 우리나라에는 영재교육을 받기 위한 사교육과 선행학습이 주목할 만한 현상으로 나타나고 있다. 이에 영재를 판별하기 위한 학생 평가의 준거로서 주로 사용되는 창의적 문제해결력 검사는 이와 같은 선행학습으로부터 어떤 영향을 받을 수 있는지 검토될 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 초등학교 수학 영재교육원 학생들을 대상으로, 수학 영재 학생들의 선행학습 여부 및 그 정도는 어떠한지, 그리고 수학 영재 선발에 핵심적 역할을 하고 있는 수학 창의적 문제해결력 검사 결과에 수학 교과의 선행학습 정도가 어느 정도로 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다. 수집된 데이터를 분석한 결과 학생들은 평균적으로 2년에서 2년 반 정도에 해당하는 수학교과와 관련한 선행학습을 수행한 것으로 추정되었다. 정규교육과정에 근거한 학업성취도는 모두 매우 높은 수준을 보여주고 있어서 별다른 변별력을 보여주지 못하였다. 선행학습 수준이 성취도 및 창의적 문제해결력과 어떤 상관을 나타내는지 살펴본 결과 어느 것과도 유의미한 상관을 보여주지 못하였다. 현재 우리나라에서 수학영재로서 판별되는데에 가장 큰 영향력을 가지고 있는 것이 수학 창의적 문제해결력 검사라는 것을 고려할 때, 일단 본 연구를 통해서는 선행학습을 얼마나 많이 하였는가에 의해 수학 창의적 문제해결력 검사에서 좋은 점수를 얻는데에 이렇다할 영향을 주지 못하는 것으로 추정해 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

  Curriculum acceleration at private institutes is prevailing phenomena among many smart students in Korea. Curriculum acceleration has been known and recommended as one of effective options that gifted students can benefit from. However, most Korean students register at private institutes and learn regular curriculum before regular schools teach them, not for pursuing meaningful learning that cannot be provided by regular schools, but for competing for better grades at regular schools.
  This study investigated how prevailing curriculum acceleration in mathematics is among mathematically gifted students in elementary schools. And, this study also investigated whether their experiences of curriculum acceleration in mathematics affect their performance on mathematics creative problem solving test. Because most gifted programs in Korea heavily depend on this test in identifying gifted students, many worries about the possibility that gifted programs are overidentifying students who experienced curriculum acceleration in private institutes. The results of this study showed that most students who were identified by gifted education programs experienced curriculum acceleration in mathematics. However, it also turned out that students" experiences of curriculum experiences was not related to their scores in the mathematics creative problem solving ability test.
