과제표절과 관련한 대학생의 디지털 정보원 활용 현황에 관한 조사연구

국문 초록

  본 논문은 표절을 ‘과제 작성시 (의도적 혹은 비의도적으로) 사용한 자료의 정확한 출처를 밝히지 않거나 올바른 인용법을 사용하지 않고 자료 및 아이디어를 인용한 경우, 또는 다른 사람의 과제 및 자료를 그대로 과제로 제출한 경우’로 정의하고, 대학생 435명에 대한 설문조사 및 17명에 대한 면담을 실시하여 대학생들이 과제표절을 위해 주로 활용하는 디지털 정보원의 유형과 빈도, 이용현황 및 활용이유, 그리고 교수자의 표절언급 유무 또는 표절방지 교육프로그램 참가 유무가 대학생들의 디지털 정보원 이용에 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보았다. 본 연구의 주요 결과를 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학생들이 수업 또는 다른 경로를 통해 올바른 자료의 인용방법에 대해 학습할 수 있는 기회는 많지 않은 것으로 조사되었다. 둘째, 응답자의 학년, 전공, 수업 및 과제유형에 관계없이 응답자들이 과제수행에 가장 많이 활용하는 참고자료는 인터넷 자료인 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 응답자들이 다양한 디지털 정보원에 의존하여 과제를 수행하는 가장 큰 이유는 자신감의 부족인 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 응답자의 전공 및 과제유형에 따라 과제 수행방식에 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

  Based on a survey with 435 college students and in-depth interviews with 17 college students on their misuse of information resources while completing course assignments, the study attempts to answer the following two questions: (a) how (and how often) do college students misuse various types of digital information resources while completing course assignments?; and (b) what are the main factors that influence on such misuse of digital information resources? The survey and interview results indicate that (a) there are limited instructional opportunities available to inform college students on proper use of various digital information resources; (b) regardless of the participant"s year in college, major, or the type of course assignment, the most commonly misused digital information resource was free Internet contents; (c) lack of confidence was most frequently reported reason contributing to college students" misuse of digital information resources while completing course assignments; and (d) participants" major and the type of course assignment seem to be co-related to the misuse of digital information resources. Based on the study findings, it is argued that there is a need to build an instructional design model to promote ethical use of information resources as part of meaningful learning which can also provide guidelines for instructors to articulate course assignments and monitor the progress of student learning.
