청소년자녀와 부모 간 긍정적ㆍ갈등적 상호작용 - 국가 및 성별 차이를 중심으로

국문 초록

  본 연구는 청소년자녀와 부모 간 1) 긍정적 상호작용과 갈등적 상호작용이 부모와 자녀의 성별에 따라 어떤 양상으로 이루어지는지, 2) 상호작용의 양 측면인 긍정적 상호작용과 갈등적 상호작용이 서로 어떤 연관성을 지니는지, 그리고 3) 상호작용 모습이 자녀가 부모에 대해 느끼는 만족도에 어떻게 연관되는지에 주목한다. 한국청소년개발원이 주축이 되어 한국, 미국, 일본, 독일, 그리고 스웨덴의 5개국 청소년들을 대상으로 수집한 2006년 자료를 토대로, 상관분석과 군집분석 및 변량분석 등의 방법으로 국가 및 성별에 따른 차이를 관찰하였다. 일반적으로 어머니가 아버지에 비해, 딸이 아들에 비해, 긍정적 상호작용 뿐 아니라 갈등적 상호작용도 많이 한다. 그런데, 청소년 자녀의 성별보다 부모의 성별이 상호작용에 미치는 차이가 더 일관적이다. 긍정적 상호작용과 갈등적 상호작용은 일본과 한국에서는 정적으로 연관되는 반면 미국에서는 부적인 연관성을 보인다. 미국은 여타 국가에 비해서는 긍정적 상호작용과 갈등적 상호작용이 모두 활발한 국가이긴 하지만, 국가 내의 유형별 분포는 긍정적 상호작용은 많고 갈등적 상호작용은 적은 유형이 가장 많고 청소년 자녀의 부모에 대한 만족도는 여타 어느 국가보다도 높다. 반면에 한국 표본은 긍정적 상호작용은 적고 갈등적 상호작용은 상대적으로 높게 분류된 군집유형에 가장 많이 분포하는데, 이러한 현실과는 반대로 한국의 청소년들은 긍정적 상호작용이 많고 갈등적 상호작용은 적을때 부모에 대해 만족감을 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 한국의 청소년 자녀와 부모 간 관계를 증진하기 위해서, 긍정적인 상호작용을 높이고 갈등적 상호작용을 줄이려는 노력이 필요하다.

영문 초록

  This study focuses on the types of interactions between parents and adolescent children, particularly friendly consultation and conflict. The main issues in this study are 1) how the gender of parents and adolescents shapes parent-child interactions, 2) whether the two types of interactions, friendly consultation and conflict, are positively or negatively related to each other, and 3) how parent-child interactions are related to the level of relationship satisfaction felt by adolescents. The study compares five different countries - Korea, the U.S., Japan, Germany, and Sweden. Generally, females experience conflict as well as friendly consultation more often than males. More important is the gender of parents than that of adolescents in affecting parent-adolescent interactions. The relationship between friendly consultation and conflict varies across nations: positively related in Korea and Japan but negative related in the U.S. Most US. samples belong to a cluster characterized by a high level of friendly consultation and a low level of conflict. The U.S. samples show the highest level of relationship satisfaction among the five nations. In contrast, most Korean samples belong to a cluster characterized by a low level of friendly consultation and a high level of conflict. Korean samples show a lower level of satisfaction with parents when compared with the other nations. The findings of this study suggest that administrative and institutional support should be accompanied by the individual efforts to increase the number of parent-adolescent interactions, especially friendly consultation.
