교사로 성장하는 과정을 통해 본 ‘좋은 교사’의 의미 탐색

국문 초록

  본 연구는 한 유치원 교사가 초임 시기부터 원감이 되기까지의 경험을 회고해봄으로써 좋은 교사가 되기 위해 노력해온 과정에서 나타난 변화와 그러한 경힘들 속에 내재되어 있는 ‘좋은 교사’의 의미를 밝혀보고자 하였다. 연구 참여자는 경력 13년의 유치원 원감교사이며, 심층 면담과 참여관찰을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 연구 결과 교사의 경력이 증가함에 따라 유아, 수업, 학부모 및 동료교사와의 관계에 대한 교사의 관점이 질적으로 변화하였다. 유아에 대한 관점은 통제해야 할 대상에서 개별 유아를 수용하는 관점으로, 수업에 대한 관점은 이론-실제의 갈등에서 이론-실제의 균형 찾기로, 학부모에 대한 관점은 가르치는 입장에서 공감하는 입장으로, 그리고 동료교사와의 관계에 대한 관점은 심리적 의지 대상에서 전문적 도움을 주고받는 대상으로 변화되었다. 또한 그러한 경힘들의 의미를 재구성하는 과정에서 좋은 교사란 ‘타인을 사랑하고 배려하는 교사’, ‘자신을 사랑하고 존중하는 교사’,  ‘협력하는 교사’, ‘잘 가르치는 교사’를 의미하는 것임을 알 수 있었다.

영문 초록

  The purpose of this study was to explore changes in the process of making efforts to be a good teacher and to clarify the meanings of "a good teacher" by recalling the course of a kindergarten teacher from the first appointment as a teacher until being the director of a kindergarten. The participant of this study was a kindergarten director with 13 years" experience, and data were collected through in depth interview and participant observation. According to the results of this study, the teacher"s views on the relations with children, classes, parents and colleague teachers were changed along with the increase of experience. In the teacher"s views, children were changed from the subjects to be controlled to individuals to be accepted, classes from conflicts between theories and practices to finding balance between theories and practices, parents from those to be taught to those to sympathize with, and colleague teachers from the objects for psychological dependence to the objects for the exchange of professional help. In the course of restructuring the meanings of these experiences, it was found that "a good teacher" means one who loves and considers others, loves and respects himself or herself, cooperates with others, and teaches children well.
