국문 초록
본 논문에서는 중앙일보와 US News의 대학 평가 측정지표 및 결과를 비교ㆍ분석하였다.
본 논문의 연구 결과는 첫 번째로, 중앙일보와 US News의 평가 측정 지표 변화에 관한 비교ㆍ분석 결과, US News의 측정 지표의 변화가 중앙일보의 측정 지표 변화보다 적은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 중앙일보와 US News의 평가 결과 비교ㆍ분석 결과, 중앙일보 평가에서는 매년 대학의 서열에 큰 변화가 없이 비슷한 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 US News의 경우에는 상위권 대학의 서열이 다른 대학들의 서열보다 안정적인 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 셋째, 전체 서열과 하위지표 서열의 관계에 있어 중앙일보와 US News는 상이한 양상을 나타냈다. 중앙일보의 경우, 매우 높은 가중치를 차지하는 하위 지표인 교육여건ㆍ재정 지표의 서열이 전체 서열과의 상관관계가 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 US News는 하위지표들이 전체점수 및 대학 서열을 잘 설명해 주고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록
The major purpose of this study is to establish the direction of university evaluation and ranking by press. To accomplish the purpose, literature review and statistical analysis were done to the university evaluation data by US News & World Report and JoongAng Daily published during 2001-2006.
The major suggestions are as follows.
First, a number of indicator"s changes were fewer US News & World Report"s than JoongAng Daily"s.
Second, top ranked universities improved their scores and ranks less easily than do other universities both US News & World Report and JoongAng Daily. The means that top ranked universities scores are more stable and a fixed amount of change in score has less effect on their rank than it does for other universities.
Third, total rank and detail ranks with sub-indicators are different US News & World Report"s with JoongAng Daily"s. In JoongAng Daily"s, top ranked universities was not stable in the sub-indicator"s rank. But in US News & World Report, taking overall score as the dependent variable and a subset of indicators as the independent variables, models with R-Squared values in the 0.98 to 0.99 range can be achieved with different combinations of predictor variables.
The consumers, students and their parents need to the information on colleges for their very great choice and they have the right to know. Therefore the university evaluation data are needed the accuracy and the data must provided to consumers.
