국문 초록

  본 연구에서는 개신교 여성들을 대상으로 부부평등의 인식과 실재에 따른 신앙의 수용양태와 역할에 대해 살펴보았다. 자료의 분석결과 몇 가지 유형을 구분할 수 있었다. 첫째, 남편우위형 여성의 전형적인 특성은 인격적 평등을 부부평등으로 간주하고 성역할태도에서 보수적인 경우이다. 이들은 전통적 보수주의의 신앙체계를 수용하고 그것을 통해 자신의 삶을 정당화하였으며, 이들의 일부는 사회적 성별분업을 자연적 특성으로 인정하는 모습을 보이기도 하였다. 둘째, 혼합형의 전형은 의사결정에서 평등을 누리고 성역할태도에서는 부부 모두가 근대적이나, 실제적인 성역할 분담에서 남성우위가 실천되는 경우이다. 이들은 실제 생활에서 대부분의 가사를 여성이 분담하고 있으며, 가족의 대표자로서 남편을 인정하는 교리해석을 수용하였다. 이러한 신앙체계가 자신의 부부평등 인식에 맞지 않자 그것을 적극적으로 재해석하여 신앙체계와 인식을 조화시켰다. 지신들의 상황이 정당화되도록 신앙체계의 구체적 의미를 재구성한 것이다. 셋째, 실질적 평등형은 인격적 평등과 의사결정의 평등은 물론 실제적인 성역할 분담의 평등을 실천하고 있는 경우이다. 이들은 자신들의 부부평등 인식과 실재에 일치하지 않는 신앙체계를 받아들이지 않았다. 끝으로, 부부평등에 대한 인식과 실재가 뚜렷이 불일치하는 여성들의 경우이다. 이들은 구체적인 삶의 궤적과 경험에 따라 실재를 조정하고 개선하는데 보수적인 신앙체계를 적용했다. 결과적으로, 보수적 개신교 여성의 신앙체계 수용방식과 신앙체계의 역할은 이중적이라고 볼 수 있다. 하나는 중심적 경향으로 신앙체계가 수용 주체의 인식과 실재를 정당화하는 방향으로 수용되는 것이다. 정당화방식에는 적극적, 소극적 방식이 모두 존재한다. 다른 하나는 주변적 경향으로서 신앙체계가 수용자의 과거 인식과 실재를 전혀 상이한 형태로 전환시키는 방향으로 수용되는 것이다. 이러한 전환에서 신앙체계는 적극적이고 중심적인 역할을 한다.

영문 초록

  This study explores the accepted ways and roles of belief system according to the perception and reality of the equality in the marital relationship of Conservative Protestant Women. Several patterns are classified from the data. At first, women of the husband-dominant type regard the personal equality as the equality of husband and wife, have the conservative attitude in sex role. They accept the belief system including male chauvinism in doctrines and justify their lives with it. Besides, some of them recognize gender role as an innate characteristic. Second, women of the syncretic type are equal in making decisions and have the modern attitude in sex role. But they don"t put the perception into practice. They charge the most part of the domestic work in their real lives and accept the hint in the doctrine that husbands are the representatives of their own families. They feel the discordance between their perception and their doctrine on the equality of the husband and wife. They positively reinterpret the doctrine for the harmony of their perception and their belief system on the equality. The meaning of the doctrine is reconstructed to justify their circumstances. Third, women of the substantially equalized type are equal in personal aspects, making decisions and domestic work. They don"t accept as the parts of belief system that is inconsistent with the reality of marital relationship. At last, some of interviewees don"t distinctly concord in their perception and their reality on the equality. They make use of the doctrine to control their real lives with it. Conservative belief system of Protestantism shows dual tendency. One is to integrate the perception and the reality of believers accepting it. The other is to transform the perception and the reality of believers accepting it. In short, it seems that belief system takes dual role to justify and transform the perception and reality of marital relationship of Conservative Protestant Women.
