수학학습장애 아동의 연산 전략 발달 연구 - 생활연령과 수학능력을 일치시킨 집단과의 단순 덧셈, 뺄셈 전략 비교

국문 초록

  본 연구는 수학학습장애(mathematical disabilities, MD) 아동의 단순 덧셈, 뺄셈에서의 전략적 특성을 연구하기 위해, 생활연령(chronological level, CA) 일치 집단과 수학능력(ability-level, AL) 일치 집단과 비교ㆍ연구하였다. 연구대상으로 일반초등학교에 재학 중인 4-6학년 수학학습장애 아동(MD) 25명과 생활연령을 일치시킨 아동(CA) 25명, 2학년 수학능력이 일치하는 아동(AL) 25명, 총 75명이 참여하였다. 수 세기(counting on), 수 가르기(decomposition), 회상(retrieval)의 세 가지 전략이 그림으로 표현되어 있는 36문항의 단순 덧셈, 뺄셈 문제를 제시한 후, 학생에게 전략을 선택한 후 문제를 풀게 하여 전략 분배와 전략 실행의 효율성, 연산능력을 비교하였다. 연구 결과, 상위전략인 회상 전략만을 사용한 CA집단과는 달리 MD집단 아동은 회상전략과 더불어 하위수준의 전략인 수 세기와 수 가르기 전략도 꽤 많이 사용하였다. AL집단 아동과의 비교에서도 회상전략을 다른 전략보다 상대적으로 적게 사용하였다. 전략 효율성에서는 다른 집단과 그다지 차이를 보이지 않았다. 단순 덧셈 및 뺄셈에서의 연산능력에 있어서는 MD집단 아동이 다른 두 집단보다 유의하게 낮게 나타났지만, 실제 점수 차는 그리 크지 않았다. 이상의 연구 결과를 통해 수학학습장애 아동은 전략의 효율성 및 수 사용하는 전략 수준에 있어서는 발달상의 지체를 보이지만, 단순 덧ㆍ뺄셈 능력에서는 별 문제가 없는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

  This study investigated the strategy characteristics and development of children with mathematical disabilities(MD) in the domain of simple addition and subtraction, using the choice method and the chronological-age/ability-level-match design. The subjects of this study were 75 elementary school students: 25 students with MD in 4th through 6th grades, 25 students without disabilities in 4th through 6th grades, and 25 students without disabilities in 2nd grade. In the counting on, decomposition and retrieval strategy, all subjects solved the same 36 addition and subtraction problems with the bridge over 10.
  The results indicated significant differences in the frequency of retrieval strategy of addition among groups and the efficiency of subtraction with the CA-matched children. Also we observed differences on the frequency of retrieval strategy of addition, but no difference on the efficiency between students with MD and students without disabilities in 2nd grade.
  This study shows that MD can be interpreted as having deficit in the use of retrieval strategy in the domain of simple arithmetic.
